Minutes

1. Lewis detailed progress of ISSUE-14 Implement PODAACOntologyMapper.java and showed output of PO.DAAC Webservices as present within the ESIP COR. This accounts for most of the progress to date.
2. Lewis is working on addressing ISSUE-9 mvn install issue and will post a pull request in due course.
3. Lewis suggested that the OntoUploader should be abstracted into an Interface and individual implementations should be available for both the ESIP COR AND ESIP Semantic Portal, this ticket is being logged at ISSUE-15 Refactor OntoUploader into an Interface
4. Lewis indicate that once the NOAA Services have been implemented, we should move on to a USGS resource.
5. a LONG TERM goal for ESKG should be to make it in to the LOD Cloud.

1. Lewis is working on ANY23-304 Add extractor for OpenIE 1st pass and will notify the team when the pull request is merged into Any23 master.
2. Yongyao is working on the new subproject xsd2owl which will enable generated of OWL from the Directory Interchange Format (DIF) Standard XSD. It looks like there is a bug somewhere which is described here.

1. Round the room took place, we were pleased to have both Justin and Kejin join us today
2. Existing technologies which were covered

• Apache Any23 - a library, a web service and a command line tool that extracts structured data in RDF format from a variety of Web documents.
• Apache CommonsRDF - provides a common library for RDF 1.1 that could be implemented by systems on the Java Virtual Machine.
• OpenIE - Open IE runs over sentences and creates extractions that represent relations in text.
• ESIP Community Ontology Repository - one of the two ontology repositories available at ESIP.
• ESIP Semantic Portal - one of the two ontology repositories available at ESIP.

1. Phase 1 strategy

• everyone to checkout the Any23 codebase, compile and install the codebase and attempt to use the basic-crawler to extract structured data from the PO.DAAC dataset landing pages
• create a Maven project within the ESKG Github repos
• document phase 1 strategy at the ESKG wiki
• document phase 2 strategy at the ESKG wiki
• build storage and persistence code in ESKG project to send extracted data from Any23 to one or more of the ESIP ontology repositories.

• further investigate use of OpenIE as a mechanism for achieving relationship extraction from the PO.DAAC dataset landing pages.
