I used mathowie's method to keep it from going into deep sleep.

Canon Selphy CP1300

Uses Canon RP-108 Postcard Size Color Ink/Paper set

It throws "Paper Jam" errors when the paper is low.
In the print dialog, set the paper size to "Postcard" or "Postcard Borderless".
It's the best photo printer money can buy and yet it is still terrible.
Keep trying: it's worth it to have physical pictures.
