Reviewing Reportbacks

Each reportback we receive at DoSomething.org needs to be reviewed by an editor. This can be done either on an individual campaign by going to the reportback tab of that campaign or on all campaigns in a specific cause space by going to the reportback tab of a taxonomy term (found by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking on the number of pending reportbacks next to a taxonomy term).

When a new reportback comes in it goes into the "inbox". The inbox lists the 25 most recent reportbacks we've received. An editor will then be asked to make one of the following choices on a reportback:

  • Approved
  • Promoted:
    • Good photo
    • Good quote
    • Good for sponsor
    • High impact
  • Excluded
  • Flagged:
    • Irrelevant
    • Inappropriate
    • Unrealistic Quantity
    • Delete this image

Approved Reportbacks

Approving a reportback means that:

  • the photo will be available in the reportback gallery (but will not be one of the featured reportbacks, instead can only be viewed by the user clicking "view more" at the bottom of the action page)
  • the impact quantity will be counted in the total output quantity for the campaign run

Promoted Reportbacks

Promoting a reportback means that:

  • the photo will be one of the featured reportbacks in the reportback gallery (6 on mobile, 4 on desktop)
  • the impact quantity will be counted in the total output quantity for the campaign run

If you promote an image, also choose one or more options as to why you promoted the reportback (options include: good photo, good quote, good for sponsor, high impact) so that reviewed reportbacks can be searched later and outstanding ones can be found more easily.

Excluded Reportbacks

Excluding a reportback means that:

  • the photo will not be available in the reportback gallery
  • the impact quantity will be counted in the total output quantity for the campaign run

Some reasons to exclude a reportback is because the orientation of the image is off (i.e. rotated inappropriately) or the crop of the photo makes the photo pointless (i.e. the crop takes out the central part of the image) or the image is blurry and not an example that we want other members to emulate. Most likely "exclude" will only be used for previously submitted photos and some SMS photos.

Flagged Reportbacks

After flagging a reportback, you will be asked to indicate if you are flagging it for one or more of the following:

  • Irrelevant
    • means that the photo has nothing to do with the campaign (i.e. a cat photo for Teens for Jeans)
  • Inappropriate
    • means there is inappropriate content either (i.e. d*** pics, middle finger in the background of the image, etc.)
  • Unrealistic Quantity
    • someone puts a ridiculously high number in the quantity field
  • Delete this image

For every category of flagged image, the quantity will be removed from the output total and the photo won't be available in the gallery. If "Delete" is selected, the reportback will be completely removed from our servers. This should be used sparingly and only if there reportback includes illegal content.
