TEAM UPDATES
Laser
Fiona
- Has a critical flaw that the laser can fire when the door is open, seems to be in software which is a bit ridiculous. Mike will put a hardware fix into place but it will take 4-5 hours to do. [#2121]
- Identified an issue with the focus stick, it's too easy to get the focus stick under the head a push the tube up. [#2097]
Sheila
- Replace door switch as some user are struggling - ongoing
- Laptop to be commissioned [#2089] - ongoing
Tony
- Mostly working, still need to fit LEDs in the bed.
- Not dimensionally accurate if using the whole bed, Andy G had an issue and has put it on the issue list [#2120]
Gerald
- Two users are interested in taking it, how do we decide? Action Mike to talk to both interested parties.
General
- Updated the wiki entries for all the lasers so more generally up to date, need more information about materials and settings though
- Still working on Karl to donate to Birckenhack
- Chiller we have would work with Karl (and not for Gerald) so will donate with the laser
- Six responses about the laser maintenance team so will do a poll for dates to get more people onboard
Fibre Arts
- One of the irons from the fibre arts room has been damaged. Equipment is being damaged. Overlockers are being left "dirty", is there an induction process?
- Actions
- Email reminding people that they should treat shared resources with respect
- Michael D suggesting photos of what things should look like, set the expectation. Along with written guidance.
- Mike G suggests pointing out that people are welcome to tidy up if they find some mess
- [ACTION] Fibre arts team will lead on this, Michael Dales also happy to help
3D Printing
- New printer (Bambu) hasn't been used too much, though Jackie has been using it plenty. Still a marvellous machine although in cold weather it doesn't do such a great job on PETG shrinking as it's not enclosed, also a little shrinkage on PLA.
- Marcus - thought it had been fixed but the issue hasn't been updated, currently problem is on a different axis to previously documented issue.
- Prince Adam - nothing been done
- Jackie going to get some grease to try with most of the printers
- Chris T points out that broken label on GitHub should be matched by a physical broken label/sign. [ACTION] Chris to create physical broken labels that can be put in place
Somebody-should issue triage
-
The issues are those labelled with the
Meeting Actionslabel -

Agenda items meeting
Finances
- Finances are very low, we bounced our rates payment. We will setup a new payment plan.
- Sanna's group could cover £250/month for a short period to help with cashflow, need to have a chat about this sometime - [ACTION] John and Jackie to chat to Sanna about event room usage
- Discussed downsizing but wasn't a lot of appetite for it
- Discussed renting out the events room, again tricky to do although discussion didn't progress too much.
- Michael Dales, is interested in a woodworking room but understands that it would require some reconfiguration. Sanna may be able to help with this and look to have this help funding in DoES.
- More marketing! Seems like a lot of people don't know that we exist.
- [ACTION] John to check if the evening events payments are showing up in the cost of doing epic and the charts
Other
- Dionne has given some suggestions relating to communications and marketing. Some great ideas. Need to work out what we would progress with. Jackie to share with the organisers as a first step.
- Cleaning
- John suggesting we reduce the cleaning schedule. Going to punt discussion to next month.
- John suggested we have a task to create the agenda for the next month and get a volunteer to do this at the end of the meeting, but then we decided it should be part of the job for the secretary.
Date of next meeting
Sunday 1st February 2026
