team updates
there is now a 3d printing team!
laser issues
mike updated both machines to use latest version of lightburn software.
gerald
- mike bought new usb lead as previous cable causing reliability issues.
- may need to monitor power supplies to see if they are misbehaving.
- else could be the controller that's failing. manufactor is difficult to contact; exact replacement may not be available. alternative could be a crc controller.
- gerald keeps freezing part way through a job.
tony
- need to measure shafts to order replacement parts.
- found regional source for flexible coupler. existing one damaged, may be the cause of misalignment.
- need to look at replacing servo motors, or replace servo motor drives with more modern ones.
- need to look at putting shielding on some of the cables (may be electromagnetic interference).
fibre arts
nick donated(?) a ribbing attachment for a brother knitting machine. to be evaluated.
mice
- building people have put poison down that kills mice. if any to collect then need to tell pest control people.
- there are still mice in the space, signs of damage to food packaging.
- in general there may be a communication issue with people not knowing about the mice.
- idea to store foods in sealed container, with label to request people replace it. alternative would be to just not have crisps etc.
marketing
would be good to have some more a5 flyers
finances
- some progress on making the space financially viable.
- have said no to mandy's sewing school using the events room, as they would require use of the space for 6 months and it would preclude us using the space at all during this time.
- mandy still interested in using the space at weekends on an individual basis.
- energy grant: no, bills haven't gone up enough for us to qualify.
- emergency business rates relief: no news (john).
website
- neil needs to finalise events page, but mostly there.
- need to update hosting details to replace existing wordpress files with the new ones.
AOB
- induction process for cnc router: no process
- projector: jackie has ordered a new remote for the events room projector
- wiki organisation: lack of directories for organising content.
daisy collective
- shaq from daisy collective has arranged to book the event space with shaun. could be a monthly private saturday evening event. need to make sure they know how to book and use the space.
- there should be a procedure for inducting events organisers; has been informal so far.
upcoming events
makefest
would people like to help at/attend wirral makefest on 10 may this year (birkenhead library). mike confirmed attendance
hope university student events
march 19th. Jackie waiting for more details. if anyone has anything they'd like to display, a good opportunity to advertise DoES space and services. (issue 2003)
workshops
- jackie, vicki(?): batik workshop (april 9th). neil liaising with andy green about the great wave project to support this.
- neil: wordpress for beginners workshop
- mike: latchhooking workshop(?). looking into making this affordable.
- would be good to email google group to ask if anyone wants to run or attend a particular workshop.
- maybe also put a sign up on the whiteboard in the space
- ways to capture information about what members would be willing to talk about.
- suggestion: a poll in the google group of workshops people would like to see.
- encourage specific requests, e.g. shane would like to learn about kubernetes.
when is the next meeting?
sunday april 6th
