Rosemary the Elder - DimethylSulfate/drooldick GitHub Wiki
AKA: Rosemary D'arcy (née McGuire)
I was born off the coast of Antrim. I met a nerd in Galway and had three kids with him. No further questions.
This is the extent of the story that Rosemary the Elder is willing to tell, but a few additional details have slipped past Daoirse's lips over the years. Rosemary's political connections mean little in this timeline, but her convictions remain steadfast. Additionally, Rosemary is said to be "near-human" as opposed to the term "post-human" used by people in Daoirse's timeline to refer to infected — and now some people in Zero's timeline knows that "near-human" in this case means "shapeshifting fae."
Rosemary's stroke history has affected her ability to stay out of a RAASC. She is very dependent on medication to remain fully cognizant. Still, even when medicated, Rosemary often has bad days where she is effectively unable to communicate clearly.
Anyone with familiarity with Síle will instantly realize the uncomfortable existence Rosemary must have lived in her own timeline. To see her own granddaughter focus on carnage rather than construction, hurting allies all the while, all while her daughter let it happen? It's no wonder she returned to the shadows to scheme with like-minded people.
In spite of having had a stroke and being well into her twilight years, Rosemary seems to be in relatively good health. She spends most of her time tracking other members of her timeline so that Jang-mi the Elder can hunt them down if necessary, and sorting through what appear to be historical documents and trinkets from her own timeline. As mentioned before, she currently relies on Licentia for her medication, but does not live in a commune, only passing through Taqfleck briefly to pick it up. Indeed, no one is quite sure where she spends most of her time, or how she manages to support herself — but it likely involves fish.
Appearance - Human
- Gray hair, which she doesn't really bother to style or cut
- Fewer, larger, and darker freckles than the other Rosemary
- Stronger jawline and significantly taller than the other Rosemary
- Physically appears her age, which is unusual for older zeitgabberim, who are said to stop aging around 60 — it appears sun damage is the culprit, or she was infected later in life
- Unusual teeth due to fae ancestry
Appearance - Seal
- Hydrurga leptonyx
- Some scarring
- Roughly 850 lbs? No one's got her on a scale yet
Fast Facts
- Considers herself selie
- Shares Daoirse and Zero's preference to satisfy the z-virus craving with seafood
- Refers to Daoirse as "roín" and Jang-mi the Elder as "comhghleacaí" — the latter is Irish for colleague, but people outside her timeline haven't figured out what Daoirse's nickname means
- Smells noticeably strange to zeitgabberim
- Quite solitary for a zeitgabber, but does not seem to be agoraphobic
- Does not handle heat well

Relationships
with Jang-mi the Elder
Rosemary and her comhghleacaí get along swimmingly. The two arrived together in this timeline in pursuit of Síle. They successfully pulled off a heist of advanced armor technology at Licentia's most advanced facility, demonstrating their competence and teamwork are among the best in the land.
Daoirse
Daoirse refuses to talk about it, but Rosemary is more than willing to explain why she disowned her daughter. The violent approach Síle took to secure "safety" for infected did not initially cause Rosemary much concern, seeing conflict and loss of life as an inevitable consequence of non-infected refusing to treat infected like people. But when it became clear that Síle was working for her own gain, as well as physically and verbally abused her supposed comrades, Rosemary became livid. Like many who have spent time in political organizing, Rosemary had seen good work and good organizations fall apart due to toxic or abusive people. Daoirse was the only person who had enough clout in infected circles to delegitimize the monster she created, so in Rosemary's eyes, Daoirse had an obligation to undermine Síle's image once her callous ambition became clear. But that day of social reckoning never came. Daoirse never seriously challenged Síle, at least not to the broader public.
In other words: Rosemary sees her daughter as a gutless coward. Over time, she realized Síle's abuse extended to Daoirse as well, and her relationship with Daoirse softened ever so slightly. But she firmly believes Daoirse failed to stop Síle earlier, and had a responsibility to do so even if the consequences were dire.
Neither party is particularly interested in reconciliation. Síle's death does not undo Daoirse's inaction while she was alive. Daoirse agrees with her mother's assessment, but also feels that Rosemary was too quick to assume Daoirse and Síle were working together willingly. She also resents that Rosemary, even after realizing Daoirse was being manipulated, did not "rescue" her from Síle. Daoirse believes this resentment she holds is slightly irrational as Rosemary put in a lot of work in sabotaging Síle, but still feels hurt that her mother did not prioritize her safety. It's reopened an old wound from childhood where Rosemary (and her husband Michael) ultimately failed to protect her and her younger brother from her older brother's bullying — a wound that Daoirse feels also is irrational. Sleepy strongly disagrees.
with Sleepy
Rosemary and Sleepy have barely interacted, and Sleepy is happy to keep it that way. Over the years, Sleepy and Daoirse have discussed their entire lives with each other. Sleepy is aware of all the details of the Rosemary-Daoirse-Síle situation — hell, they even lived through much of it. While Sleepy does agree Daoirse had an obligation to do more to undermine Síle, Sleepy strongly condemns Rosemary "abandoning her daughter to the wolves." Sleepy also suffered bullying at their older brother's hands and is infuriated apparently no timeline's version of Rosemary handled it effectively. This has lead to an awkward situation: Sleepy hates Rosemary more than Daoirse does, and Rosemary is more forgiving of Sleepy's acquiescence than she is her own daughter.
