Kelly was the first of Zero's doppelgängers. Originally shy, Kelly's personality shifted to extroversion and obsession after a head-and-face injury at Zero's hands. After this TBI, Kelly is now completely devout to Zero, going so far as to break her out of jail, for which Kelly served two years in prison.

In spite of being in lockstep with Zero's opinions, Kelly is a bit of a contrarian towards other people. This seems to the result of Erin's attempt to deradicalize her — she will now play devil's advocate for things she doesn't really believe. That being said, if her debate opponent shown any aggression, Kelly tends to immediately fold. Kelly also tends to be a little bit inconsiderate of other people's feelings, but not cruel.

Appearance

Kelly can easily be identified by the red bandana she wears around her cracked skull, which has earned her the nickname Rambo, and her authentic Texan Stetson. Although happy-go-lucky most of the time, she gets frustrated easily, and is well-aware of the fact that her TBI has left her unable to perform certain tasks.

The event that gave her a TBI broke her nose, which has since been reconstructed slightly differently than it was prior.

Kelly is said to have at least two Zero-inspired tattoos, but rumors differ on where the tattoos are located.

Abilities

Kelly's TBI makes her ineligible for AthPro, but she has managed to get some forms of combat training through acquaintances. She has also put a significant number of hours into a gun range outside of Taqfleck (she is not allowed to use ranges associated with Licentia). Kelly is said to have a fully automatic rifle hidden somewhere, but no one knows where she stashes it. This is, of course, extremely illegal in California.

Her xenoexpression ability is low, but Kelly does have the uncommon ability to grow certain types of fungal tissue if it is implanted into an open wound. She is completely incapable of cranial xenoexpression.

Kelly is capable of strongbowing, but can only do it for a few seconds each day before she risks seriously injuring herself.

History

Kelly was one of the Ten Thousand Founders and joined Taqfleck (then LCC) at age seventeen. Although she has shared this information with very few people -- not even her family -- Kelly was bitten and turned by someone just hours before the shepherding. Although she didn't see a doctor at the time, she sometimes suffered nightmares or flashbacks to the incident. These symptoms ended abruptly after her head injury, although she still remembers the incident clearly.

It is said that the rest of Kelly's family are non-infected and her parents are farmers, but not much else is known.

Relationships

with Colleen

College Democrat Colleen and rural Republican Kelly used to quietly disagree on the fundamental issues, but they were professional around other people. Colleen's personal dislike of Kelly softened after Kelly's TBI, but the two still weren't exactly friendly.

with Daoirse

Daoirse tries to avoid Kelly as much as possible. It appears that her timeline also has a brain-injured Kelly, given that she immediately knew how the one in this timeline acts.

with Erin

Erin and Kelly first met as part of the doppelgänger program. As the oldest in the program, Erin felt a bit protective of the youngest — Kelly was not even 18 at the time, and had no family with her in proto-Licentia.

The two have a friendly relationship, even after Kelly's personality shift. They don't see eye-to-eye politically or musically, and often tease each other about this. But Erin is careful not to cross the line by teasing Kelly about anything relating to her TBI. In spite of their political differences, they both strongly believe in loyalty and have a live-and-let-live attitude, therefore maintain shared principles. It must be admitted that both of them are also not above using people, especially non-infected.

Erin tries to encourage Kelly's non-Zero related interests, and Kelly tries to not constantly bring up her obsession around Erin. It is largely thanks to Erin that Kelly has made big improvements in her social functioning in the past few years.
