LAB 2 ‐ How to integrate GitHub and Copilot in VS Code Editor - DevWithNehaCloud/Oracle-Cloud-Infrastructure-wiki GitHub Wiki

Step 1: Download the Visual Code Editor for windows and install it on your system.

Step 2: Install the Extension in VS Code

Open Visual Studio Code.

Click on the Extensions icon in the Activity Bar on the left side (it looks like four squares).

In the search box, type GitHub Copilot.

Click Install on the official "GitHub Copilot" extension.

Recommended: Also install "GitHub Copilot Chat" to ask technical questions directly inside your editor.

Step 3: Authenticate with GitHub After installation, a popup will appear in the bottom-right corner asking you to "Sign in to GitHub." Click it.

Your web browser will open. Log in to your GitHub account if prompted, if you are already logged in it will directly redirect you to your github account.

Click "Authorize Visual Studio Code" to grant permission.

The browser will ask to "Open Visual Studio Code." Click Open.

Step 4: Confirm Integration Look at the bottom-right status bar in VS Code. You should see a small Copilot icon (resembling a robot head).

If the icon is visible and doesn't have a diagonal line through it, you are ready to go!

Note:- "Microsoft Copilot is an AI-driven assistant built by Microsoft that integrates directly into coding environments like VS Code. Unlike basic AI chatbots, it understands your entire project's context to suggest real-time code snippets, debug errors, and automate repetitive scripts, making it a specialized partner for developers."
