Frequently Asked Questions. - DeadlyParty/Deadly-Party GitHub Wiki
This page lists every frequently asked questions. Please note that Deadly Party is in early concept stage, and release date is unknown. Consider this like Valve time and don't expect anything until further information.
What is this?
Deadly Party is an Open Fortress/Lambda Fortress community server project aiming to create a chill place where everyone can show hero shooter skills, by participating in a deadly party where other mercenaries are your enemies, or either cooperating as one team to fight against the Combine and other factions from Half-Life universe.
Originally started as Obsidian Project PvE project 'Crossverse Eight', but now shifted focused on hero shooter games from Team Fortress universe such as Open Fortress and Lambda Fortress.
"Let's begin the deadly party game, shall we?"
Why did you plan this project?
In the back in a day, there was Crossverse Eight, after experiencing some controversy back in Overwatch 2. There was a event named Blizzcon 2019 and 2021 by Blizzard Entertainment, and it mainly showcased the new project, named Overwatch 2. It featured the PvE and leveling system. According to Aaron Keller the concept of this system was from Project Titan, a cancelled MMORPG game made by Team 4 of Blizzard Entertainment.
However, as of May 2023 the PvE game that planned was no more as Blizzard announced the cancellation of the Hero Missions, leveling and talent system and only Story Mission survived.
After a couple of months, Story Missions got released. And the result was horrible. Only some people played it and it was a total failure. It is just a continuation of Overwatch, with just No.2 next to the name.
And finally, Mar 23, 2024. The Blizzard made decision to shift focus on PvP rather than PvE due to failure of Overwatch 2 Invasion mission pack, and most of PvE developers got fired due to recent lay-offs.
Originally, I was certain that I wanted to quit making the game server, as I had lack of money hosting the server due to TF2C, and most of all, Team Fortress: Source 2 got DMCA'd by Valve Corporation and I have thought Valve is no longer friendly about modding.
However, now things has changed. Obsidian Conflict had slow development since 2021 and things has been quiet, while other Team Fortress 2 mods such as Team Fortress 2 Classic, Open Fortress, and PvE game Lambda Fortress has appeared on Steam, aiming to release the full game within 2025. This has been possible thanks to Valve for revealing the TF2 SDK, allowing mod developers to officially port the mods into Steam as a standalone mod. And the Source engine clients are now powered with 64-bit, which means now it become more stable and less prone to crash.
Because of that, I decided to try again with the thing I have never experienced: 8 Players Free-for-All Deathmatch and the 4 players traditional PvE Co-op.
What's the meaning of project name, Deadly Party?
The name Deadly Party was inspired of other party games (e.g. Astral Party, 100% Orange Juice, Pummel Party, Mario Party, etc.) since it is basically a Team Fortress universe having gores and bloods. It felt like playing party games when playing Open Fortress in the past, so I have named it that way.
Btw, what happened to Project Unison R?
- Short answer: Cancelled.
- Long answer: Since the New-Old Weapons Pack are being discontinued on July 30, 2025, and was tired and stressful due to current TF2C development's leadership, I decided to step away from it. I wanted to keep scale small, but now this is impossible as one of the major custom weapons mods from GameBanana are no longer in development.
Which server will be located on?
Singapore, North America (Dallas) and Europe (Frankfurt). Each server will have 2 servers located per region, one is Deathmatch and the other one is Co-op.
Will it be paid?
No. It is free to play.
How is this server moderated?
There is no moderation on the server, unlike before. However, people can request votekick to kick out of the player temporarily.
Our team still reserves the right to restrict access (ban) any players who are excessively being nuisance to others, cheating, directly attacking the server. So don't do that, or you will most likely get bonked out of the server.
How many people will be able to play?
For Deathmatch, maximum 8 players will be available to play. For PvE, max 4 players will be available to play, per server.
Will the servers feature character upgrades or some similar things?
No, but will consider adding custom weapons if there is another popular mod from GameBanana. Until then, we don't plan on adding upgrades that would ruin the balance. Don't worry, Vanilla and Custom maps are still going to be a thing.
How is this project affiliated with Project Unison and RTF2CS?
Project Unison/Project Unison R is no more, and this project is NOT the same as Deadly Party. This project will always remain independent, unlike my previous failed works.
Can this project be cancelled?
Depends. Maybe it might be cancelled if I don't have enough fund or some personal reason to manage the server, so don't expect it so much. However, I plan to reveal templates so you can continue hosting similar servers (But please do NOT use Deadly Party or similar names if you decide to do so)
Will this be like Project Unison/Project Unison R?
Project Unison and Project Unison R is actually the TF2C server which focused on PvP experience. However now many alternatives of TF2 are there, and I didn't felt the necessary to host it. This project is solely to focus on a Free-for-All Deathmatch and PvE Co-op experience that everyone can enjoy.
How many servers will there be for 4 players servers?
The hosting provider usually have 1GB RAM, and Valve Developer Community wiki states that Source Dedicated Server with 1GB RAM can run 60 players maximum. There will be 3 servers for each gamemodes located in Asia (Singapore), North America (Dallas) and Europe (Frankfurt).
Will there be custom contents?
Yes, Custom Maps, or if possible, Custom Weapons may be included thanks to FastDL.
Is TF2 Cosmetics from my inventory supported?
- In Open Fortress: Nope. But it supports customizing your own Mercenary's cosmetics on your main menu and every cosmetics are free for everyone.
- In Lambda Fortress: Yes it is supported.
