Digital Navigators
What are Digital Navigators?
Digital Inclusion activities aim to connect more people to internet resources. Digital Navigator programs help accomplish this goal by driving awareness of affordable plans for high speed internet and devices, helping potential program participants navigate the application and enrollment process, and working with participants to build the digital skills necessary to get the most of their broadband services.
What Do Digital Navigators Do?
Digital Navigators work with unserved or underserved individuals to overcome obstacles to broadband participation including, but not limited to:
- Engaging in marketing and communication campaigns to raise awareness of affordable broadband plans and digital devices
- Making referrals to affordability programs and help applicants complete the application and enrollment process
- Encourage digital empowerment by emphasizing and demonstrating the benefits of broadband including access to government services, searching and applying for jobs, education, and telemedicine
- Make referrals to digital skills training and provide one on one support for individuals enrolled in training programs
- Help individuals locate and access resources for education, telemedicine, government services, civic engagement, and employment
Who Operates Digital Navigator Programs?
Digital Navigator programs are most helpfully operated by trusted messengers who are already serving their communities in some capacity (e.g., libraries or other community anchor institutions and service or advocacy organizations) that are familiar with the cultural dynamics of the population.
