Rule Punishment Ratings

These punishment ratings and their associated punishments are just a general guide. Discretion of staff is allowed and expected depending on the infraction and context around the situation. Administration always have the final call in all situations.

Basic Rules

A condensed list of all of our rules, please make sure to read through these as ignorance to the rules is not a valid appeal!

  1. Any of these rules may be applied to all of our platforms.

  2. [Chat] No spamming or advertising in chat of any kind.

  3. [Chat] For the sake of moderation, only English is allowed in the server chats (including messages) and the Discord server.

  4. [Chat] Excessive cursing, inappropriate discussion, or otherwise inappropriate content in chat.

  5. [Chat] Arguing, debating in bad faith, insulting, or otherwise antagonizing staff members is strictly prohibited and will result in an instant mute. Severe or repeat offenses may result in a permanent ban.

  6. [Chat] Harassment of other players or groups.

  7. [Minor] No building at spawn without permission.

  8. [Minor] Acts of war must be when the other players are online, and should either be warranted or consented to by both parties (eg. for roleplay/lore purposes).

    Please reference the war rulebook before attacking any other players or settlements. Not following the rules of war can result in your town being disbanded or in bans if other rules are broken as well.

  9. [Moderate] Automatic farms of any type, semi-automatic are okay. Must require player interaction to work, not redstone circuits.

  10. [Moderate] Unwarranted griefing, attacking/killing, stealing, and other forms of destruction (TNT and other forms of extreme griefing).

  11. [Moderate] Attempting to make the server unplayable or unfun for other players, through harassment, griefing, lag, war, etc.

  12. [Severe] Hacking, glitching, x-ray, clients, or other exploits that give an advantage over other players.

  13. [Severe] Mute and ban evasion are strictly prohibited.

  14. [Severe] No prolonged toxicity or bullying.

  15. Admins are the ultimate authority regarding any punishment, balancing the game, and deciding when a particular situation is or isn’t against the rules.

    If you want to appeal a punishment or discuss a situation, you can do so on the official Discord server (in the #player-appeals channel).

  16. [Extreme] No nudes, porn, or other sex-related play or discussion.

  17. [Extreme] Discrimination of any kind based on race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, sex, or any other identity. This includes any slurs, hate speech, or other offensive content.

  18. [Extreme] Any type of doxxing, releasing private information, or blackmail in any way.

Full Rulebook

1. Terms of Service

1.1. By playing on Crescent Cove’s Minecraft server or joining the Discord server, you are acknowledging that you agree to these rules.

1.2. The use of ignorance to justify the violation of any of these rules is not accepted as a valid appeal.

1.3. The use of personal beliefs in order to justify bigotry, or the violation of any of these rules, is not accepted as a valid appeal.

1.4. Crescent Cove reserves the right to change these rules as needed, which players will be notified of through the official Discord server (under the #change-log channel). Players are expected to review the rules as needed.

1.5. Crescent Cove staff reserve the right to use discretion in the punishment of players on both the Minecraft server and official Discord server. Situations may warrant more aggressive punishment than what is defined in this document or warrant punishments across multiple platforms (Minecraft and Discord).

1.6. If a player would like to appeal their punishment, they may do so on the official Discord server (in the #player-appeals channel).

        1.6.1. [Severe] The creation or use of an alternate account by the banned player to do this will be considered ban
        evasion.

        1.6.2. Only the player that is banned may make an appeal for themselves through the means provided by the server.

        1.6.3. In the case that a player is unable to create an appeal or their appeal is denied, that player will remain banned.

1.7. [Chat] Repeated appeals will be considered spam and may result in punishment on the Discord server if three or more duplicate appeals are sent.

1.8. [Severe] Any attempt to circumvent punishment on any of Crescent Cove’s platforms, such as using an alternate account, is considered mute/ban evasion.

1.9. [Chat] Knowingly aiding a player in mute evasion is disallowed.

1.10. [Severe] Knowingly aiding a player in ban evasion is disallowed.

1.11. [Severe] Knowingly working for a ban-evading or banned player is disallowed.

This will only be enforced with clear, direct evidence of the individual either working directly with the banned player and for high profile and prolonged cases.

1.12. In addition to Crescent Cove’s official platforms, violations that occur on Discord servers, direct messages, or group chats of players whose relationship is primarily focused around Crescent Cove, may be used in the moderation of players.

1.13. Crescent Cove reserves the right to limit access to any of our platforms to anyone deemed destructive to our community or platforms.


2. Chat Related Rules

2.1. These rules may be applied to our other platforms and encompass chat, messages, signs, and books.

2.2. [Chat] No spamming or advertising of any kind.

        2.2.1. [Minor] Repeating the same message, making messages that fill chat, excessive capslock is considered spam.

        2.2.2. [Minor] Do not spam whenever experiencing lag (eg. “lag”, “LAG”, “I’M LAGGING”, etc).

Instead, make a report on the official Discord server in the #bug-reports channel and attach the “lag” tag.

        2.2.3. [Minor] Do not advertise any other servers or platforms. The only form of advertising that is allowed are in-game
        shops, warps, and services.

        2.2.4. [Moderate] Any debate or inquiries about punishments are not allowed.

If a player would like to appeal their punishment, they may do so on the official Discord server in the #player-appeals channel.

        2.2.5. [Moderate] Any accusation of hacking or cheating in the public chat is considered spam and toxicity.

                2.2.5.1. [Severe] Sending a player repeated accusations of hacking or cheating privately is considered
                harassment.

If a player would like to report another player of violations of these rules, they may do so on the official Discord server in the #player-reports channel.

        2.2.6. [Severe] The use of books, messages, signs, and other ways to communicate, to circumvent a mute or to
        advertise, are considered mute evasion and will result in permanent mutes and bans.

2.3. [Chat] For the sake of moderation, only English is allowed in the server chats (including messages) and the Discord server.

2.4. [Chat] Excessive cursing, inappropriate discussion, or otherwise inappropriate content in chat.

2.5. [Chat] Arguing, debating in bad faith, insulting, or otherwise antagonizing staff members is strictly prohibited and will result in an instant mute. Severe or repeat offenses may result in a permanent ban.

2.6. [Chat] Harassment of other players or groups is strictly prohibited and will result in a mute without warning.


3. Client Modifications, Hacking, Glitches

3.1. [Severe] Any client, mod, or other resource that gives a player an advantage over another is forbidden and will immediately result in a 7 day ban.

        3.1.1. [Extreme] Continuing to use resources that are considered hacking will result in the player being permanently
        banned.

Punishable resources/actions include but are not limited to: hacked/blacklisted clients; resource packs, such as armor overlays and x-ray textures; macros/auto-clickers; scripting; use of any form of fly boosting; world downloaders; blackmailing/threats; faking hacks or forging proof.

        3.1.3. Hacks and modifications such as FlyHacks, speed hacks, player/bed finders, Kill Aura, and others, will result in an
        irrevocable, permanent ban.

3.2. Mods used for performance improvement (Optifine, Sodium, etc.), cosmetic (Shaders, Illuminations), or quality of life (Litematica, Minimap, Replay Mod) are allowed.

        3.2.1. [Severe] Exploiting these mods in order to x-ray, access areas you are not supposed to access, or gain any other
        type of unfair advantage is not allowed.

        3.2.2. [Severe] The Litematica Printer add-on and see-through lava are not allowed.

        3.2.3. [Moderate] Minimap features like seeing invisible players, crouched players and seeing the Y-level of players are
        not allowed.

        3.2.4. [Moderate] Texture packs that show armor durability of other players are not allowed.

3.3. [Moderate] Block glitching (attempting to place or use blocks in protected areas and using them in order to access areas you should not be able to) is not allowed.

3.4. [Moderate] Repeatedly opening doors or breaking blocks in order to hit someone through a wall is not allowed.

3.5. [Moderate] AFK kick evasion:

        3.5.1. You are not allowed to use autoclickers, autojumpers, or any other form of modification/external program in order
        to prevent being kicked for being AFK.

        3.5.2. You are not allowed to build contraptions that help prevent you from being kicked by the AFK timer.


4. PVP Rules

NOTE: Normal PVP rules do not apply to the Nether, which is considered Bad Lands. However, the rules described in 4.1 (harassment/toxicity), 4.6 (feet grinders), and 4.7 (trapping players) still apply.

4.1. You are allowed to kill people, as long as such killing does not break harassment/toxicity rules.

4.2. Should someone log off right after their combat timer expires, and you were actively engaged with them in combat before that, you are allowed to camp the area around which they logged off.

        4.2.1. [Moderate] In case the situation described above happens, any modifications to terrain that would be
        detrimental to the player as they relog are disallowed.

4.3. [Moderate] Coordinating groups to take shifts in order to make the game unplayable for another player or group of players is not allowed.

4.4. [Moderate] Repeated spawn killing without consent of the person being killed is not allowed.

4.5. [Moderate] If making an attack against another town, you must follow the rules of war.

4.6. [Severe] Feet grinders aren’t allowed - these are traps where a players feet are hit while they aren’t able to hit back and often where they’re trapped in and can’t escape. This means players can’t be trapped at the bottom of a fall trap and have their feet hit while they’re trapped. Fall traps must also be 2x2 blocks wide or larger.

4.7. [Severe] Trapping players:

        4.7.1. Trapping at the nether portal location, including making traps in the general area where the nether portal is
        located, is not allowed.

        4.7.2. Trapping other players who willingly walk into a house/building is allowed.

        4.7.3. Trapping at the land spawn location, including combat tagging a player to prevent them from teleporting or
        logging out is not allowed.

        4.7.4. You may not force an unwilling player through a nether portal by any means.


5. Roleplay Rules

5.1. [Moderate] You are not allowed to take inspiration from regimes, ideologies, and governments which have committed real-life atrocities or are founded on doing so. This includes, but is not limited to, the Nazis, the American Confederacy, Fascist Italy, Terrorist Groups, Imperial Japan, the Khmer Rouge, the Soviet Union, or other explicitly Fascist regimes.

5.2. [Moderate] You are not allowed to roleplay systematic slavery.

5.3. [Moderate] You are not allowed to roleplay slavery of individuals, unless there is informed out-of-character consent from the enslaved party/parties.

5.4. [Moderate] You are not allowed to roleplay as real life regimes, governments, countries, peoples, or religions. This is to benefit the lore and immersion of the server.


6. Plugin Rules

6.1. [Moderate] In-real-life names or blatantly meme names may not be used as towny or nation names. Admins reserve the right to rename lands deemed as breaking these rules.

6.2. [Moderate] Building or claiming land within 12 chunks of another town, especially if it impedes on their potential growth, is disallowed.

6.3. If a town runs out of money, it will become ruined, and will no longer be protected by the claim after a period of time.

6.4. If an owner of a town is banned, members of the town can request to have the ownership passed onto the next highest member by a staff member.

6.5. [Moderate] Using any plugin on the server to scam other players is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:

        6.5.1. [Moderate] Using the QuickShop plugin to create shop chests that sell another item than what you say they sell.

        6.5.2. [Moderate] Using the trading plugin to trade items that have been renamed to look like another, more valuable,
        item.

        6.5.3. [Moderate] Using /rename, /lore and /setloreline to create items that look like they have enchantments that they
        don’t actually have. Creating “fake enchantments” is still allowed, as long as the enchantment has a different base
        color than gray, or it doesn’t have the same name as any of the enchantments in vanilla Minecraft and you don’t claim
        that it is a real enchantment.

        6.5.4. [Moderate] Falsely claiming to own land and “selling it” to other players. This can include, but is not limited to,
        using an account with a similar name as the owner of the land, doctoring screenshots to make it look like you own the
        land, etc.

We suggest requesting an admin to be a middleman to prevent this.

        6.5.5. [Severe] Scamming new or returning players.

6.6. Naming of an item/land:

        6.6.1. Renaming an item (via plugin or anvil) so that it breaks any of the rules will result in a punishment equivalent to
        having spoken/typed it.

        6.6.2. Creating/renaming a town so that it includes words that break the server rules will result in the corresponding
        punishment as stated above.


7. Griefing & Structure Rules

Griefing is defined as the destruction or construction of disruptive structures on a large scale. Cases of griefing are dealt with depending on the size and effect of such disruptive structures. Killing any animals in a claimed area will count as griefing.

NOTE: Griefing rules do not apply to the Nether, which is considered Bad Lands.

7.1. [Minor] No building at spawn without permission.

        7.1.1. [Severe] Do not grief or steal from the houses of the OG players at spawn. This is strictly prohibited, regardless of
        whether the land is claimed or not.

7.2. [Minor] TNT Cannons are not allowed.

7.3. [Minor] Redstone flying machines are allowed only in the End and must be personal sized, and must be deactivated/destroyed after use.

7.4. [Moderate] Unending redstone cycles are disallowed.

7.5. [Minor] Large-scale griefing is not allowed. However, claiming your land is encouraged and small instances of griefing need to be handled between players.

        7.5.1. [Moderate] Large-scale griefing within a claim, or the wilderness within 3 chunks of a claim, is disallowed, unless
        it is done by the owner of the claim.

This counts for the removal of buildings, unless there is explicit permission from the claim owner to proceed with such removal, or otherwise the player removing is also the player who built the structure.

        7.5.2. [Moderate] Extreme resource collection can be counted as griefing, based on staff discretion.

        7.5.3. [Severe] Should staff deem the amount griefed to be extraordinarily large, it will be considered major griefing and
        be punished more severely than regular griefing.

        7.5.4. [Severe] Using lava and water to create large cobblestone structures, also known as lavacasting, is not allowed.
        This is generally considered more grave than other forms of griefing, and is disallowed in all circumstances both within
        claims and in the wilderness.

7.6. Inappropriate builds will be removed and may result in punishment.

        7.6.1. [Severe] Symbols built with malicious content are disallowed.

        7.6.2. [Extreme] Players are not allowed to build swastikas under any circumstances.

7.7. [Extreme] Lag machines are strictly prohibited.


8. Theft Rules

NOTE: Theft rules do not apply to the Nether, which is considered Bad Lands.

8.1. Petty theft and scamming is allowed, and must be handled by the community, as long as it doesn’t break any of the plugin rules stated earlier in this document.

8.2. Theft that is older than 1 - 3 months will not be moderated, depending on severity.

8.3. [Minor] Stealing substantial amounts of money or items from claimed land (unclaimed areas are generally fair game) is not allowed.

8.4. [Moderate] You are not allowed to kick players from your town for the sole purpose of removing their shop chests or stealing their items.

8.5. [Moderate] You are not allowed to unclaim and reclaim a whole town in order to steal it from its previous owner.

        8.5.1. This only applies to players trusted in claims - if the permissions allow for non-trusted players to take items, it is
        not considered theft.

8.6. [Severe] Do not grief or steal from the houses of the OG players at spawn. This is strictly prohibited.

8.7. [Severe] Should staff deem the amount stolen to be extraordinarily large, it will be considered grand theft and be punished more severely than regular theft.


9. Inappropriate Skins and Profiles

9.1. [Severe] Players using a skin or name considered inappropriate will be banned until they change it and appeal their ban. These extend to both in-game moderation and Discord.

9.2. [Severe] Profile pictures portraying suggestive or explicit sexual content is not allowed.

9.3. [Severe] Skins/Profile pictures portraying the presence of sexual bodily fluids will be considered inappropriate, and therefore are not allowed.

9.4. [Severe] Usernames and discord bios with clear & graphic sexual intent are banned.

9.5. [Extreme] Skins/Profile pictures that portray genocidal or dictatorial regimes, bigoted ideologies, or certain groups of recent history will be considered inappropriate.

This includes, but is not limited to, the Nazis, the American Confederacy, the KKK, Fascist Italy, Terrorist Groups, Imperial Japan, the Khmer Rouge, or the Soviet Union.

9.6. [Extreme] Usernames and discord bios that refer to or glorify genocidal or dictatorial regimes, bigoted ideologies.

This includes, but is not limited to, the Nazis, the American Confederacy, the KKK, Fascist Italy, Terrorist Groups, Imperial Japan, the Khmer Rouge, or the Soviet Union.

9.7. [Extreme] Usernames and discord bios containing words that are banned on the server (i.e. slurs) are banned.


10. Toxicity Rules

Toxicity is considered to be a set of behaviors done with the intent or effect, willing or not, of insulting, belittling, threatening, or otherwise creating a negative impact and experience for other people.

10.1. The use of personal beliefs in order to justify bigotry, or the breaking of any of the rules in this document, is not accepted as a valid appeal.

10.2. Players are asked to cut contact with other players that are constantly insulting and entering in conflict with them. This can be done through discord blocks and the use of /ignore.

10.3. [Moderate] Excessively hostile language is not allowed (this includes the use of things like KYS, saying others were/should’ve been bullied, bringing up trauma in a demeaning way).

10.4. [Moderate] Repeated insulting, gloating, or mockery is not allowed. Repeated insults (regarding for example- people’s intelligence, toughness, or whether or not people like them), especially in a noticeably vitriolic, angry, and profane way is not allowed.

10.5. [Moderate] The comparison of another individual or group of people to totalitarian, genocidal, or dictatorial regimes is strictly disallowed.

10.6. [Severe] Should a player be found continuing to target and harass another, they will be punished accordingly.

10.7. [Severe] Repeatedly targeting a player or group of players through the means of wars, raiding, minor griefing in a 7 day period is harassment.

This does not apply in the Nether.


11. Bigotry Rules

11.1. [Severe] The use of derogatory slurs is disallowed as per staff discretion.

        11.1.1. [Extreme] Hard slurs (words whose main or only usage is derogatory against a group of people) are bannable.

        11.1.2. [Severe] Soft slurs (words that are not necessarily derogatory, but can still be charged with offensive intent) will
        be punished depending on context.

Soft slurs with clear derogatory intent will be punished as if they were hard slurs.

11.2. [Extreme] No blatant/insensitive discrimination or comments based on race, gender, sexuality or religion. Moderation will be issued based on examination of its severity.


12. Edginess & Political Discussion Rules

“Edgy” is understood as anything that glorifies or makes humour out of the holocaust, slavery, manmade famines, September 11th, political torture, pedophilia, the AIDS epidemic, domestic abuse, antisemitic conspiracy theories, descriptive gore, mental health issues, and other sensitive topics. It also extends to anything that mocks ethnicities, minorities, gender identity, etc.

12.1. Staff reserves the right to shut down any discussions involving edgy topics.

12.2. Players are allowed to engage in honest and good faith discussion of these events, so long as it does not devolve into apologetical dismissal or glorification of their perpetrators, or otherwise validation.

This extends, but is not limited to, the Holocaust, the Holodomor, crimes against Native Americans, colonial atrocities, Armenian genocide, Rwandan genocide, atrocities perpetrated by Imperial Japan, Soviet purges & manmade famines, Bengali famine, enslavement & genocide of Black Americans, the Khmer Rouge, etc.

12.3. [Minor] Political discussion relating to in-real-life issues is discouraged. Staff reserves the right to shut down political discussions, especially in cases where it could be considered that the discussion will devolve into toxicity or edginess. The same extends to discussions on in-real-life religions.

12.4. [Moderate] Needlessly and excessively edgy statements, jokes, memes and language are not allowed.


13. Targeted Bans & Ban Weaponization

13.1. [Moderate] Ban Folders - Keeping folders to store and categorize massive amounts of evidence in order to pull out when it is advantageous is not allowed. This is scummy metagaming.

This is only bannable with evidence of a dedicated ban folder, not player testament alone.

This does not apply if someone is building a case for recent toxicity against a specific player.

13.2. [Severe] Ban Wars - It is not allowed to report someone as an in-game tool, aka starting a “ban war”. Any evidence that directly shows players intending to use bans as a weapon in a conflict, starting a ban war, use blackmail of evidence in order to influence in game events, etc., will result in this player being banned.

This may lead to a reduction in the original reported ban based on staff discretion.

This does not apply based on the timing or speculated motivation of a report alone, and must be based on clear and direct evidence.


14. Sexual Interaction Rules

14.1. Interactions or comments of sexual and erotic nature are not allowed.

This extends to all Crescent Cove platforms.

It’s important to note that sexual interaction rules regarding minors (pedophilia) do not abide by the statute of limitations! This is all for the safety of our community.

14.2. Staff reserves the right to confiscate in-game books containing sexual material.

14.3. If you are a minor (under 18 or the age of consent in your country) and another player asks to meet you in person, please contact staff immediately.

14.4. [Moderate] Reaching out or seeking sexual interaction as a minor is punishable. Lying about your age in these circumstances is also punishable.

14.5. [Moderate] Inappropriate comments towards someone, especially if they show discomfort, will be punished.

        14.5.1. [Extreme] Breaking the above will be punished harsher should the victim be a minor.

14.6. [Severe] DMing another player unsolicited messages of sexual or suggestive content will be punished.

14.7. [Severe] Sexual, erotic, and graphic comments on public chats where minors are present will be punished.

14.8. [Severe] Sexual activity between inappropriately aged players will result in a ban.

14.9. [Severe] Inciting or fabricating sexual harassment allegations will be punished.

14.10. [Severe] Any evidence of low level sexual harassment or solicitation will be taken much more seriously (with a lower threshold of evidence and no plausible deniability) if the violating player has a history of these activities in our community.

14.11. [Severe] Erotic roleplay is not allowed anywhere within the Crescent Cove community.

14.12. [Severe] Writing and/or distributing sexual content is punishable.

14.13. [Extreme] Pedophilia, grooming or sexual harassment of any kind will fall under illicit behavior will result in a ban.


15. Miscellaneous Rules

15.1. Sharing Personal Information:

        15.1.1. [Severe] Any reported jokes in any Crescent Cove related servers that involve the distribution of random, valid IP         addresses (IPv4 format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx), phone numbers, or addresses will be punished.

        15.1.2. [Extreme] The distribution of IP Grabbers or Viruses, as well as the act of doxxing, are strictly forbidden.

This includes, but is not limited to, sharing someone else’s sensitive/private information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, region of residence, etc.

15.2. Illegal Behavior:

        15.2.1. [Extreme] All laws regarding Minecraft as a medium apply on the server. Using the server, Discord or any
        property related to Crescent Cove to exchange real life goods or illegal content is not allowed.

        15.2.2. [Extreme] Encouraging illegal behavior or the exchange of real life goods.

        15.2.3. [Extreme] Committing clearly illegal acts within the community or server, especially those with social
        ramifications, is punishable.

15.3. Investigations, Evidence, Blackmail, and Weaponization:

        15.3.1. [Severe] Withholding evidence of a player's rule break that is currently punishable in order to get in-game or
        social advantages or favors from that player is not allowed.

Any evidence of this must require the blackmailer using the evidence as a way to get what they want, or threatening to leak or report for it.

This does not apply to blackmailing using in-game political or social information, this form of in-game blackmail is allowed.

        15.3.2. [Extreme] Lying during staff investigations of rule breaking, even surrounding the context of the rules, may
        result in a ban, especially when the investigation surrounds a serious issue.

        15.3.3. [Extreme] Modifying evidence (screenshots, logs, etc.) to get a benefit from staff or evade punishment is not
        allowed.

        15.3.4. [Extreme] Lying about information or evidence in order to get somebody banned is strictly not allowed.
