2 Meeting Hindolo - CountNick/orange-the-world GitHub Wiki
Introduction
Hindolo explained why he took the initiative to walk for violence against women and girls in Sierra Leone. He lives in Minnesota, USA where the Mother of George Floyd, walked from Alabama to Minnesota as a statement against violence against people of color. This sparked Hindolo's inspiration to do something similar for his home country of Sierra Leone. Then he saw on the news that there was a 5 year old girl raped and murdered in Sierra Leone.
Walk for a child
He realised violence against women and girls is a big problem in Sierra Leone and wanted to know what the root of this problem is and try to raise awareness for this problem. He then knew what his mission would be, go to Sierra Leone and walk through different towns and villages to spread awareness for this world problem.
The 800km walk starts on November first and ends on the tenth of December, he will start in Gendema and finish in Freetown.

Arrival
When he reaches a village there are a couple of things Hindolo does:
- Washing the feet of 18 women
- Planting a tree to symbolise a new beginning
- Do a pledge with the men of the village to hold each other accountable against rape culture
- Asking for forgiveness
Hindolo uses the number 18 because this resembles the age of maturity.
Story that needs to be told
Hindolo highlighted that this story needs to be told, he stated Sierra Leone has:
- One of the highest death rates in the world
- Literacy rate amongst women is very low
This story needs to be told. The question here is why men feel the need to do this, and where this idea comes from in masculinity.
