General Lore
- The kingdom is dealing with a terrible famine. People are starving, and they’re dying and resorting to cannibalism to survive.
- The king (final boss) through experimentation has turned humans into animalistic creatures in an attempt to turn them into food. Criminals were taken and imprisoned and turned into these creatures to be fed on.
- The dungeon the two party members are in are actually invaded by the king, who finds that he can control monsters and that they can become more powerful through to be part of his army. His human army is weak due to starvation, so he discards them for the monster army.
- The guards are human, except for the guardsman is secretly a turned humanoid.
The Old King
The Ruler of the kingdom gone to ruins after a famine spread through like wildfire. In a desperate attempt to save his people, he begun to experiment on criminals with old magic, transforming them into animals to turn them into food. The old magic turned them, but came with horrible side effects. One by one they turned more grotesque, monstrous. Less man and more monster.
The famine only grew worse as time passed on, his army weakening. The King discovered that these monsters were growing more and more powerful, and he soon learned that he could control them with the promise of flesh to feed them. He discarded the weak for the strong, and grew his army of creatures. The King himself began to become less human, subtly, as he too began to consume human flesh to keep himself from starving. It didn't stop the famine, not close, but the King realised he could use this to his advantage to take over other kingdoms in search of food. But as his army grew, there was less and less human to feed on, so he went to the one untouched place in the kingdom. The dungeons.
The Dungeons
Consisting of several floors, the dungeons had been the last to be over-run by the Old King. Those on the lowest floor don't know of the ravaging happening on the surface. What originally held criminals now was home to what would either feed the Old King's army or join it. Those closer to the ground floor were brought to get experimented on, the rest became food.
-
Floors 1-3 The lowest floors in the dungeon, where possibly last of the humans remain, and where the players are found. Cells are empty, not a person in sight, just the occasional worm and rat, but the walls show markings of something else. Claws too large and deep to be rats, slime trails that couldn't be left by just a worm, blood that seems too fresh. Travelling further through and further up, more and more of the creatures become present and more dangerous, but there seemed to be an odd absence of prisoners. Human ones at least.
-
Floors 4-5
More prisoners are present here, but not exactly alive. And not exactly human. It's clear something wrong has happened here, and that something worse is happening on the surface. The creatures on these floors seem to become more human, half formed. -
Floors 6-8
The final floors until escape. The creatures are more human, if not completely human, though there is something off about them. Then there came the King, human on the surface, at least on a glance.
