All effort put into translating strings will be useful for everybody using the Cockatrice application.

You'll be requested to login with an existing account (GitHub, GMail, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) or to create a new one.
Once you're logged in, join the translation team of your language and start translating or request a new language you want to work on.

A: You can request a new language from the transifex interface, but you'll have to wait for a team member to approve that language first.

A: Some strings contain dynamic text, for example "You have %1 cards.". The %1 is a tag that will be replaced with the actual text when needed. In this case, it's the number of cards that will be inserted automatically: "You have 6 cards."
So take care of the grammar and syntax of your language when inserting placeholders!

A: Menus and button labels can declare a hotkey that can be pressed to activate them. A classic example is the "File" menu in many programs that can be accessed by using the Alt+F hotkey. In this case, the translatable string is "&File". The & needs to be placed in front of the character that should be the hotkey ("Fil&e" will activate Alt+E hotkey).
It's some kind of science, though. You need to design it for each window separately and care about uniqueness, while still keeping consistency.
If you are not completely sure it's ok to skip the & and go ahead without hotkey functionality first. If you review your work later in the client and use it a bit, you'll get a better feeling.

A: ⏎ indicates that there is a line break. ⏎⏎ indicates that there is a new paragraph.
The Transifex Editor in the browser automatically displays them after you hit Enter and submit your translation. You don't need to use HTML tags like <br>.

A: We can't tell you how to do it right in your language... :)
Try to choose idiomatic wordings and orientate yourself towards other computer programs and keep the card games background in mind. Generally speaking, most languages might tend to use a more formal tone for user interfaces.

A: The better solution is to stay neutral.
Since April 2016 we decided to drop the support for different messages based upon the gender of the players. The major motivations are trying to avoid harassment between players and minimize the translator's efforts. All the messages should now use neutral pronouns when they are available ("they" for English, "hen" for Swedish etc.) but that if there's no acceptable method for it in your language, just use whatever makes sense.

A: Some strings have multiple forms, for example the string draw %n card(s) in English will be translated as draw a card and draw %n cards.
The editor has a button to switch between the different forms when available, please keep the different forms similar to each other and don't change the sentence structure between the forms when it isn't necessary.
In this string %n will be replaced with the amount, unlike %1 it might be desirable to remove it from a translation.
Note that the source string includes parentheses, these should not be translated.

A: Go to "Account" → "Notifications" and enable Receive notifications for updates in files of a project.
(Notifications for project announcements and messages from users might help with staying up to date, too)

normal A: You'll have to wait for someone providing a cockatrice build that includes your updated translations. You can get the most recent development releases from our release page, so it should just be a matter of waiting some time.
We might review it first or wait for more changes to happen before we include it in the app, though. You could always talk to us and ask for a faster implementation!

advanced A: You can compile your own binaries - make sure to integrate your changed .ts files downloaded from transifex in /cockatrice/translations/ and /oracle/translations/!

A: Drop us a line and we try to include the most recent translation you've done in a weekly build as soon as possible!
Filing a GitHub issue (How?), using the #translate-me channel on Discord or writing a message to a Maintainer/Team Manager on Transifex might be best for this.

A: Some strings are different in my Client or promote features not available to you. That might be because you are using Stable Releases. Since we need to work on new features in advance and test them the strings for the interface are created before the release and show up earlier in Transifex too, so that translators have some time to finish translations for them. This process secures as much completed strings as possible for each release! To see or understand how these strings are used in the client, you have to use Beta Releases instead.

Simply change one setting in your client and you're good to go: Release Channels
You can also download the newest beta manually from our release page and install it into a new directory on your PC additionally. Make sure to change the your release channel for that second installation and update that client from time to time. This way you can easily keep up and understand strings that appear on Transifex better.
