Deciding On a Theme

I didn't come into this project particular theme I wanted to do. Just like with my previous Quake project, Chateau Battle, I started by first looking at what WAD files and textures were available. I browsed through several WADs on a few different websites. When I found the WADs depicted below, I figured I could have the overall theme of this map be greco-roman-ish style temple. image\ image

Developing the Theme

So there is this greco-roman-ish style temple. It would be neat for the player to break into this place to steal the treasure that's inside it. The monsters and enemies normally upkeeping, and worshipping in the temple would then defend the temple from the player as they try to desecrate it.

It would be neat if this temple was at the center of the city just like how the Jedi Temple is on Coruscant in Star Wars. The player could start on the aside and see its grandeur and there could be some balconies and windows where the player could see their starting point from.

An interesting twist would be if the pagan religion the player thought this temple was for wasn't as it seemed, the imagery slowly getting a little more grotesque the further into the temple they get. The chiseled perfection of the Greek gods gives way to the more cruel nature of the Minotaur.

The Temple

Room Ideas

  • Atrium/entrance
  • Lounging or sitting rooms
  • A worship space or tribute space of some sort (layout kind of like the Parthenon).
  • The more interior rooms and areas would be more labyrinth-like and dungeon-y.

WAD Collection

After I created a few WADs with textures I wanted to us, I compiled them another WAD to trim off the textures I know I don't want to use. at least for now. Those are here. Check out the Credits to check out the sources I pulled from for these new WAD files.
