2.1. Playtest 1 - CiarennHollis/ChateauBattle GitHub Wiki
Playtesting the Greybox Draft
I had my greybox draft of the Chateau Battle level playtested. The players played a 5 minute deathmatch in my map and then completed a survey afterwards. This playtest is mainly focusing on the overall layout and structure of the level.
My Observations
- There needs to be more spawn points, some telefrags (kills from spawning on top of another player) happened
- Shooting from the top level worked nicely but there needs to be more cover in the throne room to account for this
- Going up and down the tables in the dining areas feels weird, it shouldn't be as smooth as it is
- This map is too big for 4 to 5 players; it's better fit for 8-9
The Survey
- Playertesters were given statements and rated out of 10 how much they agree with those statements.
- An example question is: "I could easily find other players. (1: Disagree; 10: Agree).
- There were also a few prompted open ended questions where playtesters could elaborate on their feedback.

Summary of Open Ended Responses
Compliments
- The map has nice theming so far
- The throne room and spiral staircases are neat
- There are a lot of fun places to jump on to
Critiques
- It was more likely to find players on the upper level of the map
- Too few spawn points and they are too close together
- Some areas feel congested, it wasn't clear how some areas should be navigated
- The map was too big and too spread out
Key Take Aways
- More spawn points need to be added
- More pick ups need to be added as well as a wider variety of pick ups (like armor), especially on the ground floor
- The map overall could be smaller
- There needs to be more cover in the throne room
