Opening CellProfiler on Mac OS 10.15.7 - CellProfiler/CellProfiler GitHub Wiki
Some users have reported experiencing issues when opening CellProfiler since updating to macOS 10.15.7. While we are still investigating the problem, we have found a couple of workarounds to successfully open CellProfiler, which we share below.
Most of the problems that we have seen occur when CellProfiler is opened from the /Applications
folder in the Finder. If you are experiencing such problems, we recommend the following step-by-step installation procedure:
- Download CellProfiler-macOS-X.XX.zip from the Releases page.
- Move your CellProfiler-macOS-X.XX.zip directly from
~/Downloads
to/Applications
, without extracting the contents. - Extract the contents of CellProfiler-macOS-X.XX.zip in the
/Applications
folder. - Open the extracted CellProfiler app.
Alternatively, you can try the following:
- Download the CellProfiler-macOS-X.XX.zip from the Releases page.
- Download the CellProfiler-macOS-X.XX.zip to your
~/Downloads
folder. - Extract the CellProfiler app into your
~/Downloads
folder. - Move the CellProfiler app into the
/Applications
folder. - Right-click on the app, click “Rename” and rename CellProfiler to CellProfiler2.
- Try opening CellProfiler2.
If these workarounds above do not work, or if you are having trouble opening CellProfiler from your ~/Documents
or ~/Downloads
folder, please file an issue on the issue tracker on Github, or report to the CellProfiler forum.
Note: when trying to open CellProfiler, a dialog window stating that "CellProfiler cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified" may show. To open CellProfiler, right-click on the app and click "Open". Another dialog window appear and will give you the option to "Open" the application.
