Launch Contract Negotiations - CalgaryToSpace/CTS-SAT-1-Wiki GitHub Wiki
When considering & negotiating launch contracts, it is best to have in writing the exact launch you will be going on, as opposed to having estimated launch windows or vague 'We will launch you on XYZ rocket' - this minimizes chances of being put into the incorrect orbital parameters for your payload(s), holding onto a satellite for longer than you had planned for, and the possible knowledge transfer loss (especially in the context of a university team) that could occur between Final AIT & handover/launch.
If your payloads require very specific launch parameters push to have the specific launch vehicle or window specified in the contract with your launch provider. This should include terms for how it will be handled should the provider fail to fulfill that launch opportunity.
As a student team, launch providers will by default prioritize their commercial customers over you. Once a contract is in place however, you hold the same rights as any other customer. It is therefore up to you to understand these rights and when to seek counsel to ensure the fulfillment of your launch contract.
