  • Area: An area describes a logically and/or technically connected domain (telecommunications, infrastructure, IT services, etc.) which is directly or indirectly involved in the development, operation, maintenance or decommissioning of an SDV and the vehicle industry. Each Area develops, hosts, or provides Building Blocks, Enablers and Definitions needed to develop, operate, maintain, and decommission an SDV. Areas can overlap or a technical area can host building blocks of another logical area. For example the Area-SDV-R&D with the Area-OnPremiseCloud.

  • Area-SDV-R&D: The term Area-SDV-R&D describes/means areas or departments in a company that develop building blocks or other software for a software-defined vehicle. Used software can also be based on building blocks or require them for execution. There is a relationship or dependency to a BB. Example: IoT Development Department, in company A uses a Software Development Kit (SDK is a BB) for processor ABC and executes their test in an emulated environment (emulator is a BB).

  • Area-OnPremiseCloud: The term Area-OnPremiseCloud describes/means a technical area within a company, which hosts computation hardware to provide different services within the company or for external partners and customers. Example: File or Image storage service (Storage service is an Enabler) which provides different library versions for the encryption and decryption of data (Cypto lib is a BB). The lib is accessible via an Interface (Definition) or can be modified (updated/deleted) via an API (Definition).

  • Area-SDV-InVehicle: The term Area-SDV-InVehicle describes Building Blocks located in the Vehicle. This building blocks are for example part of the Infotainment System.

  • Area-SDV-ServiceProviders: The term Area-SDV-ServiceProvider describes an IT Infrastructure which is maintained or owned by another industry. For example, the Telecommunication Industry. The services they provide are used to operate a SDV. (GPS Service, Traffic information, or other V2X Services).

  • Area-SDV-EnterpriseResourcePlanning: The term Area-SDV-EnterpriceResourcePlanning describes a logical area which provides IT Services needed to manage for example a vehicle fleet or provide a landing page / single point of contact for potential customers and car owners. Other services like payment or helpdesk are also located in this area. Services in this area are connected to the vehicle. For example to download collected data which are analyzed for feature improvement.

  • Area-SDV-Customer: The term Area-SDV-Customer describes a logical area which includes all end devices that a vehicle owner or user uses to interact with the vehicle, the vehicle manufacturer or other services networked with the vehicle. This can be a smartphone, a tablet, a PC or any other device that can run a web browser or a corresponding application.
