valor - CIF-Rochester/wiki GitHub Wiki
Valor is CIF's Netbooting server, serving our SUN SPARCstation 10s. It serves as CIF's only UNIX server, running NetBSD (Truly a great operating system). The origin of the hardware is somewhat special, coming from the Goodwill Clearance Center, at a cost of $2.99.

Do a standard NetBSD install, with the standard cifadmin account.
A tip for the NetBSD install, you can set up a network by way of enabling Binary Packages. I would recommend you do this, as, by default, NetBSD does not ship with a high level package manager (pkgin), instead shipping with pkg_add, which is worse. If you do not do this step, there are a few things you can do (namely, look up how to install pkgin). Inside of this option, the computer will connect to the internet via DHCP. This was not done on this computer, but is recommended if this is done in the future. Don't let the connection persist from here in the future, for you will need to set up static IPs.
I would also recommend enabling ntpdate and ntpd.
There are a few creature comforts you should probably add, namely nano. To do this with pkgin, run the following command:
pkgin install nano
For how to set up NetBooting a Sparcstation (and, consequently, the rest of how to set up Valor), I'd recommend navigating to this page: Netbooting a SUN SPARCstation.
Long Live NetBSD
