9 Do you need the machine to be user friendly? Yes.   Yes
10 How many times the grain should be filtered? 2 times.     Yes

1.2 Basic Survey and requirements

Table 2: Observation from a literature survey
SI.NO Observation from surveys Requirements
1 Weight of  Machine It should be able to carry and transportable
2 No.of operations The machine should work fine for atleast 8 to 10 attempts
3 Cost Machine should be built with minimum budget
4 No.of grain to be filtered The machine should filter one type of grain at a time
5 Materials to be used Materials used to built, must be non toxic and light weight

1.3 Identifying Client's Objectives

                Table 3: Objectives identified
SI.NO Objectives
1 Machine should be semi automatic
2 Machine should be hygienic
3 Machine should be user-friendly
4 Machine should be portable

Problem definition version 1.1:-

Design a semi-automatic grain-filtering, Machine, which is able to do accurate and hygienic filteration process, it should be Portable and user-friendly

1.4 Identified Constraints

  Table 4: Identified Constraints
SI.NO Objectives
1 Machine should be less weighted.
2 Size of the action should be 1 cubic feet.
3 The machine should work 3hrs continously.
4 The machine should clean 1 kg grains per 2-3 minutes
5 Cost of the machine should be within Rs.3500
6 It should work on 100 watt power consumption
7 Machine should carry maximum 1kg

Problem definition version 1.2 :-

A semi-automatic grain filtering machine, which is able to do remove the dust particles Stones and impurity, it should be portable and user friendly machine must not exceed the volume of 1 cubic feet , the machine should clean 1 kg grains per 2-3 minutes budget to build should not exceed Rs. 3500 and it should work for 3 hours continuously.

1.5 Establish Functions

             Table 5: Identified Functions
1 Hold the container.
2 Sensing the grains.
3 Suction of the grain.
4 Grains enter into the machine.
5 Filtering of the grains will take place.
6 Separation of the waste particles and grains will be take place.
7 Outlet of impurities will take place.
8 Collection of grains in a container .
9 Process completion.

Problem definition version 1.3 :-

A semi-automatic grain filtering machine, which is able to do accurate and hygienic filtering process, it should be portable and user-friendly. Machine must not exceed the volume of 1 cubic feet, should be able to clean 1 kg grains per 2-3 minutes, budget to build should not exceed Rs. 3500 and it should work for 3 hours continuously. Machine should indicate the user after filtering process is completed and should not do filtering in case if grains is not there.
