Purchase a new 8GB SO-DIMM

Purchase a 8GB SO-DIMM card. There is a wide range of quality and many counterfeits out there. This is the one that should be purchased. It came out with the best performance rating in our engineering lab's comparison test.

Open the Firewalla Gold

Remove the four screws on the bottom of the Firewalla. Put them someplace safe so you don’t lose them.

Remove the old SO-DIMM

GENTLY apply outward pressure on the clips holding the SODIMM in place.

As you apply outward pressure to the clips the SO-DIMM should pop up. Note the angle of the card. This is the same angle that you will insert the new card.

Remove the SO-DIMM in the same direction as the angle of the memory card.

Insert the new SO-DIMM

Take the new SO-DIMM and insert it at a 30 degree angle. This is the same angle as when the old card popped up.

Firmly press the SO-DIMM into the slot.

Gently, but firmly, press the top of the SO-DIMM toward the main circuit board. There should be a click or two as the two clips lock the SO-DIMM in place. These are the same two clips that you moved outward to take out the original card.

Now you have a Firewalla Gold with 8GB of memory. So far this appears to completely negate the use of swap files thereby apparently improving performance.

Replace the bottom cover

Replace the cover and the four screws. Reconnect all the network cables and then the power cord.

And there you have it, 8GB, the largest SO-DIMM the Firewalla can accept.
