pfSense Firewall Configuration

The pfSense Firewall acts as the default gateway for all machines on the network, and thus acts as the firewall between the general internet and all machines on the network.

Network Configuration

WAN

• IP Address: 10.0.17.13/24
• Upstream Gateway: 10.0.17.2
• No IPv6 or DHCP

LAN

• IP Address: 10.0.5.2
• Skip Upstream Gateway
• No IPv6 or DHCP

Once configured, access the pfSense web-based GUI at https://10.0.5.2 via a different device on the network that it's connected to. Once there, there are more configuration options:

• Hostname: fw01-unlucky
• Domain: unlucky.local
• RFC1918 Networks: Uncheck Block private networks from entering via WAN
