Closed Beta - BinaryElement/Chroma GitHub Wiki
Closed Beta was renamed to Alpha Testing to remove the confusion over closed vs open testing. Everything here is still applicable, just no longer named correctly. This page will be fixed when I get home.
The Chroma Suite uses a Closed Beta system for bug testing, new features, and various improvements before releasing public versions. You must be a part of the Chroma Discord to participate, as that's where all closed beta info and releases occur.
Don't be afraid of Closed Beta just because of the name, it's a very non-stress system. While closed beta applications are open, you need only read and agree to the Closed Beta criteria, which are outlined below.
General
The purpose of Closed Beta is to help ChromaToggle get tested and fixed before pushing public. This means you are effectively playing on experimental builds. Therefore, they are potentially bug ridden, and in fact occasionally have major game-stopping issues for some people. Of course, you can just uninstall ChromaToggle and no damage will be done, but the point remains - if you play with a Closed Beta version of ChromaToggle, you accept the risk that your game may experience bugs and crashes.
With that said, the primary purpose of Closed Beta is to get these bugs fixed. If you're uninterested in bug reporting, you should stick to public builds. I'm not asking you to hunt down bugs, I'm simply asking you to play with ChromaToggle as you normally would. and report any bugs you find in the #bug-reports channel.
Restrictions
Closed Beta does, occasionally, come with restrictions. Usually in the form of “don’t stream this build” or on a feature by feature basis. This is generally because certain elements of ChromaToggle's CBT are in a work-in-progress state, and I do not want them advertised while they may be poor representations of the finished product. Typically it will be hard to accidentally share these features - if otherwise, I will make it abundantly clear what to do when I release the build with restrictions.
Applying for CBT
Closed Beta Testing is only called "closed" out of a technicality - it's actually pretty open. While applications are open, simply apply for it in the #cbt-application channel by stating you've read and agree to the above criteria. If you have a specific reason for wanting to join CBT, I'd love to hear about it too, but that's not mandatory.
Once you have joined CBT, some more channels will become visible - you can get the latest build at #closed-beta-releases, though I recommend you read #cbt-restrictions first.
