ChromaToggle (gamemode)

The original gamemode for which the plugin is named after. ChromaToggle, the gamemode and the plugin, was born when I was stuck with only one working controller, and a viewer of my stream suggested a mod to change the colour on trigger press.

And everything spiraled out of control after that day.

  • Both sabers are blue, but turn red when the trigger is held.
  • Difficulty Range: 4-8
    • Primary difficulty comes from sightreading.
    • Easy difficulty only gets slightly harder.
    • Expert and above becomes nightmarish difficulty.

Pentachrome (Pentatoggle)

After inventing ChromaToggle (gamemode), people were constantly suggesting exactly this gamemode.

What they didn't realize was how big an endeavour it was to do, and I stubbornly refused to do it. Then one day I did it. Huh. Turns out I didn't have as much trouble as I expected. It was still insane though.

Also, contrary to everyone's (including my own!) expectations, adding more colours is not necessarily more difficult than messing around with the original two. But this is a good thing. Pentachrome adds a good amount of challenge, and unlike two colour toggle, that difficulty isn't extreme enough to make everyone run away from my beautiful creation ;-;

  • Sabers are normal, but turn to new colours when the trigger is held.
    • Blue -> Green (defaults)
    • Red -> Magenta (defaults)
  • Difficulty Range: 2-5
    • Primary difficulty comes from sightreading.
    • Easy difficulty only gets slightly harder.
    • Expert and above becomes moderately harder.

Pentamaul

The moneymaker gamemode. It's flashy. It's challenging. It's fun. It's the fast lane to cutting all your limbs off.

If you thought Darth Maul was cool, well, you're right, darth maul is cooler because it can be played with two hands. But if you thought one handed Darth Maul was cool, you're wrong! Try one handed Darth Maul with two hands! Wait, what?

Listen, it's pentachrome without the toggling, and in double darth maul style. What more do you need from me??

  • Double Darth Maul! Each hand holds two sabers!
    • Green beam comes out of the back of your blue saber
    • Magenta beam comes out of the back of your red saber
  • Difficulty Range: 3-6
    • Primary difficulty comes from sightreading.
    • Easy difficulty only gets slightly harder.
    • Expert and above becomes moderately harder.

Dual Maul

This mode, like two colour toggle - but more extreme - is the dark horse of ChromaToggle. Extremely difficult, but not as cool as pentamaul, people don't tend to pay much attention to this one.

But screw all those losers. Play this! You'll be a loser too! Seriously. It's really, really hard. You're going to lose. A lot.

  • If Pentamaul is the maul version of Pentachrome, Dual Maul is the maul version of ChromaToggle (gamemode)
    • Both sabers blue, red beams coming out of the back of both.
  • Difficulty Range: 5-10
    • One of the hardest built in gamemodes.
    • Expert and above becomes extremely nightmarish.

Forced Single Saber (F.S.S)

Another moneymaker gamemode, Forced Single Saber is a simple concept. Play any song you want with one hand.

It works by removing one of your sabers (duh), and then cutting down all double hits until only one block remains. Each playthrough is the same, so there's no luck element across attempts.

With that said, some maps don't work out very well. Forced Single Saber doesn't make a map out of nothing, it simply converts existing maps. There's only so far that mechanic can go. Particularly at higher difficulties, sometimes maps are absolutely atrocious in Forced Single Saber.

But sometimes, they're really fun.

  • Play any map with one saber!
  • Difficulty Range: 1-???
    • Easy difficulty is easier.
    • Expert and above varies depending on the map.
      • Sometimes no big deal.
      • Sometimes nigh impossible.

ChromaToggle Forced Single Saber (CT F.S.S)

I dabbled in some questionable experimentation, and managed to come up with this gamemode. A Chimera born of fusing together the toggle gamemodes and Forced Single Saber.

  • Play any map with one saber, and two colours!
  • Blue saber turns green while holding the trigger (defaults)
  • Difficulty Range: 3-???
    • Same as Forced Single Saber, but harder
    • ChromaToggle (gamemode) is still harder in principle
      • The toggling is much easier to wrap your head around with one saber than two
  • Ed... ward?

Monochrome

Surprisingly fun, and surprisingly difficult, I first made Monochrome as a custom gamemode simply to test the custom gamemodes system. But it turned out to be far more interesting than I expected, and I moved it over to an official slot.

I, like everyone else, thought Monochrome would be extremely easy. However, at higher difficulties, it makes the game significantly harder. The player has to figure out how to flow between notes without the guidance of colour telling you which hand goes where. It's actually quite the challenge!

  • Grey notes, grey sabers!
    • Hit any note with any saber.
    • If playing on no arrows, total freedom!
  • Difficulty Range: 1-5
    • Easy difficulty is far easier.
    • Expert and above varies depending on the map.
      • Sometimes no big deal.
      • Sometimes very challenging.
    • Contrary to popular belief, Monochrome is often harder than standard.
      • No guidance on which hand goes where

Challenge

A simple gamemode, for simple, crazy, people.

  • Tiny notes, fragile player!
    • Notes are smaller, requiring significantly more accuracy
    • The player takes significantly more damage from losing combo
  • Difficulty Range: 6-9
    • All difficulties are increased exponentially

Nightmare

Literally designed as an attempt to make the hardest gamemode I could, while not quite being DIAL UP "difficulty", Nightmare is the ultimate challenge in willingness to persist through suffering. Turns any map into a malformed monstrosity of mirroring, jacked up patterns, fancy blocks, and crazy mechanics.

Do not proceed.

  • You're a goddamn masochist if you like this
    • Literally designed to just be stupid difficult.
    • Requires agreeing to the safety waiver to play, due to environmental flashing.
    • Features Bi-Directional notes
  • Has a cool theme though
    • Creates a stormy atmosphere by overriding lighting and adding rain/thunder/lightning
  • Difficulty Range: 11
    • All difficulties are increased exponentially
    • Unique "**** YOU" mechanic will keep you on your toes
