Consciousness

Labor and Liberal Consciousness determine how likely pops are to support movements around their interests. At low labor consciousness, only academics and a few engineers will support socialist movements, while at high labor consciousness, laborers and machinists will join in. Similarly, at low liberal consciousness only a few academics will join liberal movements.

Consciousness is primarily determined by buildings, more industry increases labor consciousness and more financial districts or trade centers increase liberal consciousness. Certain laws can help lower forms of consciousness, keeping the country more manageable.

The socialist, anarchist and communist movements will only revolt at a certain labor consciousness, as it reflects a core part of their ideology and tactics.

Interactions with IGs

Each movement that pressures an IG forms a Faction within that IG. Factions interact with IGs in two key ways:

• Splits
• Takeovers

Splits

Some factions can split off from an IG, this happens when either the faction has 20% pressure on that IG or the movement itself has over 30% support and activism.

The factions/movements that can split are:

• The liberal movement from the Industrialists or the Intelligentsia into liberals
• The radical movement from the Liberals into radicals
• The modernizer movement away from the Liberals, Industrialists or Intelligentsia and into conservatives
• The absolutist movement from the Landowners into reactionaries
• The land reform movement from the village interests into agrarian_populists
• The socialist movement from nobody into :socialists: (or from the first int'l)
• The market liberal movement from liberals into market_liberals
• The anarchist movement from socialists into anarchists
• The communist movement from socialists into revolutionists
• The reformist socialist moevment from socialists into reformists
• The fascist movement from nobody into fascists

Takeovers

Sometimes an IG can be taken over by its leading faction, this happens in two flavors.

Soft Takeovers

This is when the leading faction of an IG applies some pressure on it to temporarily adopt certain ideologies. Specifically the extra ideologies that can be obtained from movement pressure are:

• Constitutionalist (liberal/constitutionalist movements)
• Radical (radical/socialist movements)
• Abolitionist (abolitionist/non-labor radical liberal and socialist movements)
• Modernizer (liberal/modernization movements)
• Paternalist (labor/socialist movements)
• Restorationist (Royalist/absolutist movements)
• Laissez faire (Laissez faire movements)
• Slaver (pro slavery movement)
• Liberal Nationalist (Liberal-nationalist movement or fascist movement)

Hard Takeover

This is when the leading or a large faction of an IG ends up completely consuming the IG into a new IG. Specifically:

• Conservatives can turn into paternal conservatives from labor movement pressure
• Agrarian populists can turn into agrarian socialists from socialist movement pressure
• Liberals can turn moralist when their leading faction is religious
• Trade unions can turn conservatives when their leading faction is religious or cultural majority or national liberal
