Quest Guide (WIP) - Benitex/Pokemon-Burning-Scales GitHub Wiki

This guide outlines the progression required to complete some quests in the game and explains how to achieve different endings. Many quests have optional steps that are not required, but provide additional information. This guide will contain spoilers, and I suggest exploring the game on your own before consulting it.

Burning Scales (Main Quest)

Find Professor Oak

(Note: Finish any side quests related to the Nimbasa Tournament before going to Castelia and finding Professor Oak.)

The main quest is unlocked by talking to Elesa after leaving the Pokémon Center and going east. To find Professor Oak, you have to cross Route 4 and reach Castelia.

To get to Castelia, leave Nimbasa through the south exit and cross Join Avenue. After arriving at Route 4, you'll unlock the PokéRadar, allowing you to see which Pokémon you already found and captured. Talking to some cops, you'll discover the Route has been taken over by the Bikers.

You'll be stopped by a police officer, who says the route is dangerous because of the Bikers. You can ask why he is not trying to make them leave, since he's a cop, and get to know a little more about the situation, or say you need to talk to Professor Oak, and he'll let you pass.

Just continue going south until you arrive at the Castelia gate. You can talk to the attendant to discover that his lab is on Castelia Street. Continue going south on Central Plaza, and when you find the square with the 4 streets, go to the southeastmost one.

At this point, you can talk to the police officer to get to know more about the street and the professor's location. Just enter the building on the south side of the street and talk to the secretary to get permission to enter both Professor Oak and Juniper's labs.

Defeat the Bikers

After first talking with Professor Oak, he asks Nathan to defeat the Bikers on Route 4. Go to the Castelia Police Station and start the Wiping out the Bikers! quest.

The Police Station is located on Oceanfront Street, between Gym Street and Narrow Street, in the southmost part of the city.

Investigate the Desert Resort and Relic Castle

After the meeting in the Police Station, go back to Professor Oak's lab and talk with him. Now, he asks you to investigate the Desert Resort and the Relic Castle. That conversation also unlocks the move tutor moves on the move relearner screen.

To go to the Desert Resort, go back to Route 4 and go to the northwest-most area, following the street that comes from Nimbasa. In this area, you'd find some bikers if you haven't defeated them yet, and you'd need to defeat them to continue. If you're following this guide, the area should be clear at this point, so just proceed to the gate.

If you defeated the Bikers, a nurse will be in the initial area of the desert, and will heal your Pokémon whenever necessary. Now you can explore the desert, enter some caves, find items hidden in balls and stones, and catch some new Pokémon.

To continue the main quest, you'll have to enter the Relic Castle. You'll find it in the northmost, central area of the desert. In there, you'll find a stone with some Unown texts.

The translation is: "The gates to the Castle wont open while the guardians are in fury". Which means, before entering the Relic Castle, you'll have to fight against the 5 guardian Pokémon in the Desert Resort.

  • Marowak is the closest to Relic Castle, around some bones, looking at the sea.
  • Mawile is south of the pillars that lead to the Relic Castle, in the center of the desert, in a cross-shaped area of sand.
  • Simisage is close to the entrance, going north and surrounded by some cacti.
  • Metang is on the south, surrounded by pillars in a circular shape.
  • Gabite is the most hidden one, you need to find a small passage to the west to go to a secret area in the southwest. You'll find it attacking a rock.

After you defeat all of them, the stairs to the B1F in Relic Castle will become available. To cross to the stairs that lead to B2F, just move slowly. If you fall, you'll find a stone with unnown texts saying: "Haste makes waste move carefully". Once you get through, you'll find some steps leading to a rock with some cracks beneath it. You won't be able to proceed any further through this path, so interact with it and go back outside. Before you leave, a Hiker will tell you he saw the Volcarona. You can now return to Professor Oak to report your findings.
