First Draft of Map (10/1/2022)
I wanted to make it square like a pyramid (as in a square base from the top down). In addition, I wanted to make it symmetrical, so the balancing could be easier. The plan is to have starter weapons and gear at the beginning, but as you go deeper, you can obtain better materials if you risk your well being. Kind of like venturing into a pyramid.
I have no idea what type of vertical I'll put in, but maybe as you get closer to the center you gain the higher ground, despite that being possible a bit contrary to the idea of a pyramid. That's all that I have here for now
Second Draft of Map (10/9/2022)
After talking over my map idea with several developers and playing Quake Deathmatch for the first time, I got some ideas. I specified locations to put ammo and gear as well as cover (although I ended up not sticking with them 100%). I got an idea on the map design from looking at Relic Castle from Pokémon Black and White. The crumbling castle aesthetic is what I was looking for along with the sand pit traps
I later decided to make the rectangular and not symmetrical, despite there being symmetrical elements. There are a handful of pits and stairs for easy traversal between floors. Like the original, there is starter gear and ammo in the beginning rooms, but the closer to the center you get, the better items you will obtain on each floor. In addition, the "Master Weapon" for each floor is in an open space, which makes it a high risk high reward scenario for players, or less risk if no one is around it
