Installing JESSI on iOS 14.0‐16.6.1 and 17.0 - Baconium/JESSI GitHub Wiki

To install JESSI on iOS 14.0-16.6.1 and 17.0, we will first be installing TrollStore, and then using that to install JESSI. Installing TrollStore will be different depending on your iOS version, please refer to the proper guide. If your iOS version supports multiple installation methods, the easier method will appear first on this page, but feel free to use any guide your idevice supports.

If you already have TrollStore installed, skip to the "Installing JESSI after TrollStore has been installed" guide.

TrollHelperOTA - A8-A11 iOS 15.0-15.4.1, A12-A15 iOS 14.0-15.6.1

  1. Open Safari on your idevice and tap here.
  2. Tap the the "Install" button on the popup
  3. After the GTA Car Tracker app installs (this is actually TrollHelper), open it
  4. Tap "Register Persistence Helper"
  5. Tap "Install TrollStore" (if your idevice reboots after this, go back to step 3)
  6. TrollStore is now installed!

TrollInstallerX - iOS 14.0-16.6.1

if you are on an A8 iPad, this guide will only work for iOS 14.0-15.1.1. If you have an A8 iPad on iOS 15.2+, please use a different guide.

This guide will require you to use a computer. MacOS, Linux, and Windows are supported (good luck BSD and TempleOS users)

  1. On your computer, Download and install the latest release of PlumeImpactor for your platform. If you are on Linux, you must install usbmuxd (this comes preinstalled on most distros). If you are on Windows, you must install iTunes, NOT from the Microsoft store
  2. Plug your idevice into your computer, and trust your computer on your idevice
  3. Open PlumeImpactor, then go to Settings and sign in with your Apple ID (this will only be sent to the Apple servers)
  4. Download the latest release of TrollInstallerX and drag it into PlumeImpactor
  5. Click the "Install" button

The rest of the steps for this guide will all be on idevice, and you are safe to unplug your idevice from your computer. If you are on iOS 14.x or 15.x, skip to step 9.

  1. Open the Settings app, then go to Privacy & Security > Developer Mode and toggle on Developer Mode
  2. Restart your idevice when the popup to do so appears
  3. When the popup to turn on developer mode appears after you unlock your idevice, turn it on and enter your passcode
  4. Open the Settings app, then go to General > VPN & Device Management and tap on the profile
  5. Tap install and enter your passcode
  6. Exit settings and open the TrollInstallerX app
  7. Tap the "Install TrollStore" button (if it gets stuck at the "Exploiting Kernel" step, reboot your idevice and try again)
  8. When prompted to select the app to install the PersistenceHelper into, select the Tips app
  9. TrollStore should now be installed! If it is not please continue to step 15.
  10. Open the Tips app and tap the "Install TrollStore" button
  11. TrollStore is now installed!

TrollRestore - iOS 15.2-16.6.1 and 17.0

This guide will require you to use a computer. MacOS, Linux, and Windows are supported (good luck BSD and TempleOS users) This guide will require you to disable Find My on your idevice. It can be re-enabled after installation.

  1. On your idevice, open the Settings app, then go to Apple ID > Find My > Find My iPhone
  2. Toggle Find My iPhone off if it is on, then enter your Apple ID password
  3. On your computer, download and install the latest release of Python3 for your platform. If you are on Linux, you must install usbmuxd (this comes preinstalled on most distros). If you are on Windows, you must install iTunes, NOT from the Microsoft store
  4. Download the latest release of TrollRestore for your platform.

The guide from here splits into a Windows/MacOS version, and a Linux version. The Linux guide will work on all platforms assuming you downloaded the Linux release of TrollRestore.

Windows/MacOS guide

  1. Plug your idevice into your computer, and trust your computer on your idevice
  2. Open File Explorer if on Windows, or Finder if on MacOS and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the TrollRestore binary
  3. Double click the TrollRestore binary to open it
  4. When prompted to overwrite a system app, type "Tips" and hit enter
  5. Wait for your idevice to reboot, this may take some time
  6. After your idevice reboots, open the Tips app
  7. Tap the "Install TrollStore" button
  8. TrollStore is now installed!

Linux (Universal) guide

  1. Open your terminal of choice
  2. Navigate to the directory that you extracted the TrollRestore_Linux.zip file to
  3. Install the dependencies (run "pip3 install -r requirements.txt" and follow the prompts)
  4. Plug your idevice into your computer, and trust your computer on your idevice
  5. Run the TrollRestore script with the command "python3 trollstore.py"
  6. When prompted to overwrite a system app, type "Tips" and hit enter
  7. Wait for your idevice to reboot, this may take some time
  8. After your idevice reboots, open the Tips app
  9. Tap the "Install TrollStore" button
  10. TrollStore is now installed!

Installing JESSI after TrollStore has been installed

This guide can be followed on all idevices assuming that TrollStore is installed.

  1. Download the latest release of JESSI
  2. Open TrollStore and tap the "+" button in the top right
  3. Find JESSI.ipa in the file browser window that appears, then tap on it
  4. Tap the "Install" button
  5. JESSI is now installed on your idevice!

There is no need for any additional steps for enabling JIT, since TrollStore allows JESSI to enable JIT automatically. As a side note, JESSI will run the JVM in a separate process on your device (this means that you can stop servers without it crashing the app), and doesn't require location permissions or playing silent audio in the background in order to run in the background.
