20210622 – Mutual Aid Conceptual Paper Handover Note

This provides a general update of the Mutual Aid Conceptual Paper project, which Daniel will pick up in the Fall quarter and draft into a full paper in Fall 2021. Current wiki provides a helpful (and brief) review of evolution of project and thinking. Furthermore, uploads include corpus selection. The most recent two files are the most important. The excel sheet provides brief commentary and focus on all conceptual and empirical articles in the corpus to help with classification for what type of ‘mutual aid’ they exhibit. The document provides a draft framework for the paper, as excerpted quotes from all papers which can serve as the basis for the core of the paper: how recent scholarship conceptualizes mutual aid in the Solnit, Spade and Anarchist traditions (typically Grubacic), each with their own emphases.

Drafting should be able to continue from this core, and then should focus on subgroups (MA in the social work/self help tradition, historical fraternal orders, and emergency response categories), which include how each link/cite Kropotkin. Once this is done, the more difficult issue of untangling ‘mutual aid practices’ can be more clearly addressed. Daniel Kryger
