Creating Release Versions Of ExtendScript Tools - BCLibCoop/nnels-a11y-publishing GitHub Wiki

Release Version Versus Source Code Version

All ExtendScripts in this repository are provided in two ways: as a release version and as a source code version.

These two versions are functionally identical.

The only difference between the two is that a release version script is combined into a single .jsx file, which makes it easy to install and distribute.

A source code version, on the other hand, is composed of many .jsx files.

Source code versions are useful to software developers during development, but installing them and getting them to work is more cumbersome than using a release version.

If you are an end-user, you should opt for downloading and using the release version of any one of the scripts.

If you are a software developer, you should opt to check out this repository, and use the source code versions instead.

If you make any changes to the source code, the final step will to create a release version from the source code version.

To make a release version of the a script, you need a Mac with the Apple Developer tools (https://developer.apple.com/xcode/) installed, and the command line tools too.

With all source code versions of the ExtendScripts in this repo, you should find a subfolder called 'MacDeveloperTools' which has a double-clickable command line script called 'makeReleaseVersion.command'.

Double-clicking this script will collate all source code components and spit out an updated release version of the script at hand.
