  • A person has needs, a shopping frequency, abilities, a health status, account (in labor-time credits).
  • A person consumes products from a distributor. These come out of the distributor's inventory in exchange for credits.
  • Distributors get products from producers. Distributors and producers are firms.
  • Every firm keeps an input inventory, monitored and replenished asynchronously.
    • The distributor sells products out of its inventory.
    • The producer uses inputs to make its output products.
  • Every firm makes a plan to produce or sell products.
    • The plan has a budget of hours to be spent on machinery, inputs, and living labor.
    • The total is "borrowed" from the future as the plan's "prd" (or "debt") budget entry.
    • The firm pools its inputs budget to transfer upstream in return for input products.
    • Income from downstream is transferred into the "debt" of the relevant plan's budget.
  • Downstream purchases produce demand signals, which upstream firms use to adjust inventory reorder thresholds.
  • When an upstream producer receives an order for q quantity of product p —
    • If it does not have enough inputs on hand, it rejects the order.
    • Otherwise, it offers a draft plan with a projected turnaround time based on its workforce's abilities.
    • The downstream purchaser takes up the best draft plan offer.
  • When a firm completes a plan, it reports the actual (rather than projected) hours worked. A central price controller service recomputes the observed average hours per unit of the product to determine its price.
  • The society and individual firms track how busy their workers are. Firms use this metric to reallocate workers as necessary.
  • The society uses the busyness metric to determine changes in the length of the standard work day.

Future:

  • Introducing competition among firms.
    • Firms compete on the basis of plan turnaround time and product quality.
    • Consumption signals favor faster production and higher quality.
  • Modeling services.
  • Modeling a public sector.
