Motor Sizing

  1. Volume of Chasis = Length X Bredth X Height = 2 X (30 cm X 20 cm X 0.8 cm) = 960 cm
  2. Density if Foam Sheet = 0.48 g/cm^3
  3. Mass = VOlume X Density = 960 X 0.048 = 460.8 g = 0.4608 kg
  4. Mass of Wheels = 4 x 75 g =300 g =0.300 kg
  5. Total Mass = 0.4908 kg
  6. Radius of the wheel = 4.5cm
  7. Force = Total mass X gravitational Acceleration = 0.4908 X 9.8 = 4.80984 N
  8. Torque = Force X Radius = 4.80984 X 0.45 = 2.16423 Ncm
  9. Factor of safety(FOS)= 1.5
  10. total Torque = 1.5 x 2.16423 = 3.246345 kgcm
  11. According to this calculation the selected DC motor is 60 RPM 12V DC motor .
