Baking sculpties from the initial .blend file - Avedra/secondlife-rlv-dev GitHub Wiki

Walkthrough for baking sculpties (sculpted prims)

  1. For this walkthrough only 3 things are required, all of them free! First, you will need a copy of the free graphics program Blender, second a copy of the OpenCollar.blend file, and third one of the freely provided basic collar textures. For the purposes of this walkthrough we're using standard_black.png.

  2. Install a Blender version of at least 2.7.9, the following screenshots were made in Blender 2.7.9 and there is no guarantee the screen will look anything like that if you have a different version or have installed additional tools.

  3. Open the initial OpenCollar.blend file from where-ever you downloaded it to. If you checked out this project it will likely be in your git directory on your computer, otherwise it will be in your downloads folder or where-ever you saved it to. images/Sculpties1.png images/Sculpties2.png

  4. You should see a page that looks something like this: images/Sculpties3.png If it does NOT look like this, check the 3 view and mode related buttons pointed to by red arrows and set them to the values shown if they aren't set there. (You may need to right click and view this image to blow it up to a larger size if you can't see the menus easily.) This picture is in object view, and needs to look like the above so we are sure that the .blend file loaded correctly. Of course, the next problem is that it's pink. Pink with no shading or texture information.

  5. Now we need to apply the preset texture, standard_black.png. In the lower right pane, hit the button for textures (pointed to in red). images/Sculpties4.png

  6. Now scroll down to the Image: section. You will see it refers to a .tga image that's not provided - it can't load it, so there's no texture, and this is why the rendered collar is currently pink. Hit the icon that looks like an open folder with a file coming out of it, and you will get the file selection menu. images/Sculpties5.png

  7. Select the standard_black.png texture and open it.

  8. Your screen should now look like what's below, an actually textured collar. images/Sculpties6.png If it doesn't, recheck the previous steps - the first thing to look at would be to check the Image view in the lower right to see if it says anything about being unable to load the texture correctly. Look at the Preview above it and see if it's switched to the mixed black and grey of the preview texture.
