Some History

In the original Spiral Knights, there is a secondary currency called energy. This energy must be paid for and is generally much more valuable than crowns. (The primary currency)

A few years ago, there were two forms of energy: Mist Energy and Crystal Energy. Mist Energy (Or ME) would cap at 100 and would regenerate in about a day. Crystal Energy (or CE) was permanent and had to be paid for. You had to spend 10 of either form of energy to play 1 level, meaning a full tank could take you on 10 levels. Lore-wise, ME came from the Core of the planet. (Cradle)

At present day, ME has been dropped, leaving CE. In exchange, playing levels is free.

As for Elemedals

As for this game, the player will use Energy Points (or EP) as a form of power used to attack. Now, some of you are probably thinking "Oh no! There will be spells and all that garbage now!" Don't worry! Spells aren't a thing!

EP will be consumed whenever you use a Charge Attack. EP regenerates quickly, and certain equipment will make it regenerate faster. The amount of EP consumed varies from weapon to weapon.

In addition, all monsters in the game will also have EP. However, they will not necessarily use it. Constructs and Undeads will most heavily use EP, followed by Fiends and Jellies. Gremlins and Beasts will rarely use it, if ever.

Getting hit by Elemental Damage will subtract the amount of EP the victim has. This means that attacking Undeads and Constructs will enough Elemental damage will make them be unable to use their more powerful attacks. (See the Damage and Status Mechanics page for more details.)

Finally, EP is actually just another term for Mist Energy. Because of this, EP will regenerate faster at lower levels in the Clockworks, causing the later levels in the game to be a bit more fast paced.

Why bother with all of this? You'll have to figure it out for yourself!
