TILT: Text to Image Linking Tool
The purpose of TILT is to provide a practical tool for linking areas of a facsimile to ranges of text in a transcription. To achieve this TILT needs to cope with the problems of facsimiles themselves: their uneven lighting, curved or tilted text, variable handwriting and complex alterations. Requiring the user to specify linkages between such regions manually demands too much of human patience. Automation is thus a key goal of TILT.
Another goal is to make TILT a freely available tool for general use, without restriction or cost, and for any reasonable purpose. It is open to developers who want to contribute and share in the work of others. To assist this mission this wiki will set out and aim to keep up to date a list of tasks that need to be done, and also explain the current design. Like the real design in code this textual design is subject to suggestions and update.
Terminology
TILT is divided into two main halves: the left-hand image side and the right-hand text side. These are referred to in the wiki as LHS and RHS.
