EXP System

Aurora has a very custom EXP system. Instead of BASE EXP being based off of the level difference between the highest level member in the party and the mob, instead it is JUST based off of the mob's level. Like Final Fantasy games that came before XI, EXP from mobs scale up as they get stronger. The amount of relative EXP needed to level up is the same as era. There is also a small boost to EXP that varies on mob difficulty level and party size: When fighting T-IT or higher with 3 or less party members, VT-IT with 5 or less party members, and IT with 6 party members.

Actual TNL is based off of the number of Even Match monsters it would take to level up. For instance, level one mobs are always worth 10 EXP and it takes 50 EXP to get to level 2, instead of 100 and 500 respectively. This means that theoretically you could get to level 75 by just killing the level 1 starter mobs, but this would take forever.

When deciding EXP values, I focused more on making sure Decent Challenge and Easy Prey mobs scaled as closely as possible with retail. It is very close to 75 era values. Tough and above mobs needed a little more EXP to match retail relative EXP values. Therefore on monsters above the level of the highest party member, there is an EXP bonus. This bonus is 10% for each monster level above the highest member in the party. It is very close to era accurate relative values.

Limit Points act as normal except calculations always assume you are level 75, even while under level sync. Conquest Points are what their normal era value would be. Below is a chart that shows mob EXP and TNL values per level.

There is a custom GM command for everyone to use to view their/another player's TNL.

  • Using the normal in-game method to check TNL will not work after level 28 because of overflow. Addon EXP watch plugins still work, but because of the large number using !tnl is recommended because it shows a %.

There are also custom GM commands for a player to toggle on/off a display (in the chat log) of the amount of Conquest Points or Imperial Sanction points gained from killing of mobs.

Instant Relevel System

At any map vendor, you can pay gil to instantly relevel your jobs.

  • You must be level 1 to use this feature
  • The minimum requirement is to die at level 10+ on your current job
  • The NPC will level you to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 60, 65, 70 and 75 if you have died at one of those levels or higher
  • The amount of gil is based on the level you are going to and what the highest death for that job was
  • You must trade the EXACT amount of gil the NPC is requesting
  • You can talk to a map vendor OR use the custom GM command !relevel to see what your current options are for releveling.

Level Sync

Because the EXP system is so unique for this server, Level Sync took some work. Base EXP is calculated after adding or subtracting the level difference between your actual level and the syncee to the mobs level. There is a level gap limit of 10 levels (up for negotiation). If you are over the level limit gap, Level sync will still work, but you will get the same EXP as the syncee.

Example:

Monster: Level 17 185 Base EXP normally
Syncee: Level 12 185 Base EXP [10.67% of a level w/ 1734tnl]
Member1: Level 10 128 Base EXP [12.40% of a level w/ 1032tnl] then the normal Gap Penalty is applied
Member2: Level 15 319 Base EXP [8.79% of a level w/ 3638tnl]
Member3: Level 25 185 Base EXP [0.54% of a level w/ 34449tnl] (Above sync gap)
Remember, the amount TNL increases exponentially every level, so 185 EXP to a level 28 is very low and 128 EXP for a level 10 is not that much worse than 185 for a level 12.

I hope that all made sense.

EXP Rings

Dedication effects have also gone through some changes so that there are viable options at all levels.

  • Instead of having an EXP cap to determine when the Dedication effect wears off, they have a fixed duration but have a level range.
  • Dedication effect no longer wears off when you get EXP outside of the level range. Bonus EXP is only applied inside the level range. This means you can use EXP rings outside of the level range to bypass the level sync gap (but no bonus EXP).
  • Characters may also carry one ring of each type, but are still limited to 1 new ring or recharge per week.
  • While under the effect of Dedication, you are exempt from the level sync gap in the same way as people releveling a job. Use those rings wisely!
Ring Charges EXP Bonus Duration Level Range How to Get
Chariot Band 7 25% 1 Hour 1-25 500 CP
Empress Band 7 25% 2 Hours 20-49 1000 CP
Emperor Band 3 25% 5 Hours 45-74 2000 CP
Anniversary Ring 10 50% 2.5 Hours 1-75 Beta Testing
