The preferred vocabulary for occurrence status is:

• present
• absent

Different values may indicate that occurrenceStatus is erroneously used to express abundance, for which other Darwin Core terms, e.g. organismQuantity in combination with organismQuantityType or occurrenceRemarks, should be used.

Data custodian recommendations

Review occurrenceStatus values in your data set. If the values express abundance, rather than occurrence status, transfer them to occurrenceRemarks (if they are free text) and try to match them to a relevant vocabulary, so that they can be delivered as organismQuantity. Contact the ALA Data Team for advice, if necessary. Set occurrenceStatus to 'present'.
