Terminologies
- Host machine - Runs hypervisor
- Guest machine - Virtual machine that runs on a hypervisor
Variants
Type-1, native or bare-metal hypervisors
- Run directly on the host's hardware
- Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware ESXi and Xen
Type-2 or hosted hypervisors
- Runs on a conventional operating system (OS)
- Examples - QEMU, VirtualBox, VMware Player
