Types

• Upward trend
  • peaks and troughs are getting higher
• Downward trend
  • peaks and troughs are getting lower
• Sideways trend
  • Little movement up or down in the peaks and troughs

Trend lengths

• Long term trend
  • TBD
• Major trend
  • one lasting longer than a year
• Intermediate trend
  • last between one and three months
• Near-term trend
  • lasts anything less than a month
