Justin is a 19 year old college student that competes in Rubik’s Cube competitions in his free time. He has competed in 57 competitions over the course of 7 years, and has placed 1st 25 times in various events. He is currently sponsered by TheCubicle, a speedcube vendor, and is paid to promote their products and compete. He has also hosted 3 official World Cube Association competitions in New Jersey.
Justin has struggled with keeping up with delays and rescheduled events during competitions, and believes they are caused by miscommunication. When a competitor, volunteer, or staff are called up, or are expected to show up based on a schedule, they may not arrive. Justin wants to make sure that these people are regularly notified when their presence is needed so he can move the competition forward.
Justin creates groups of competitors to compete in different times depending on how fast each competitor is. He would like to save time by having this completed automatically. Sometimes competitors do not attend which will force him to restructure each group.
- My name is Benjamin Rosenberg, I'm 16 years old and I'm a student at The Phillips Exeter Academy. I work at the local gap store, where I make 10.50 an hour. I live in Exeter, New Hampshire with my parents. I enjoy:
-
- robotics
- programming
- video games
- cubing
- biking
My day starts at 7 am, when I wake up and get ready for school. A 15 minute bike ride to school, where my first class starts at 8 am. I get out at 2:15 am and takes me 20 minutes to ride to the mall, where my shift starts at 3 pm. The small break I have before my shift starts, I like to time myself for solving my rubix cube. My time's have gotten better, but there are very few competition's in my area. When they are in my area, getting to them is a challenge, because Exeter is a small town and the competitions are either held in Concord, New Hampshire or Boston, Massachusetts. My parents can't always take me so I can't participate and there aren't streams for these competitions so I don't really know what they are like. I have several friends that have also really engaged in the rubik's hobby, but there is very little out there and it would be great if there were more.
- Name: Alex Corbin
- Job: Student
- Income: None
- Rough location: Victory Park, Dallas, TX
Alex is a 16 year old high school student from Dallas, Texas. He loves math and science, and aspires to become an engineer. He’s involved in sports and loves solving puzzles, especially the Rubik’s cube. Although he has won several sports tournaments, he has yet to win a puzzle competition.
Alex has been solving puzzles since he was 8 years old. He mostly saw his father solving them and learned it from him. But, he couldn’t compete with anyone since most of the people he knew were not interested or enthusiastic about puzzles. As years went by, he improved his skills and became much faster. In fact, whenever Alex is not studying or playing sports, he experiments with new puzzles. But, he never got an opportunity to participate in puzzle competitions. He barely heard anyone talking about it and didn’t know any place nearby that organized these types of competitions.
One day, after doing a lot of research, Alex found out about a puzzle competition near Austin, Texas. Very excited about the opportunity, he paid for the competition during the time of registration and got all the details of the event. Unfortunately, the event got cancelled due to some problems with the venue of the event. His mother drove him from Dallas to Austin only to find out that the event got cancelled, and didn’t get any refund on the payment. Very disappointed, he went back home. He was really upset on not getting notified about the cancellation of the event. Since then, Alex has not participated in another puzzle competition. Nevertheless, Alex still wishes there was an easy and convenient way to connect Rubik’s cube and other puzzle fanatics together and provide a platform to compete.

As an avid Rubik's cube competitor, I'd like to be constantly updated on time-schedule changes, and upcoming competitions I could register for. As a student who uses multiple social media platforms, and is subscribed to many things. I'd like precise and quick information regarding Rubik’s competition occurring in my area. A site that is easy to navigate.
The main thing that attracted me to be a Rubik's cube competitor, was the community of people involved, as well as the love for solving puzzles. Solving it helps with your cognitive skills, and hand eye coordination.
James Li is a 22 year-old newcomer to the Rubik’s cube world. He is currently attending The New Grand University as a junior in the engineering program. It is there where he was introduced by his friends to Rubik’s cube. He finds solving the cube to be very interesting and realize that he is really good at solving it quickly. He recently decided to participate in the nearest Rubik’s Cube competition around his area.
Unfortunately, even though he lives in a big city and really motivated to participate in a competition, he found it really hard to find the nearest competition place. After exhaustive search online, he could not find a venue nearby at all.
Realizing that there is no competition venue around his city, James contacted his friends and friends of friends whether they want to hold a competition in the city. Unfortunately, he does not realize that there are certain rules and regulations that he need to follow in order to do so.
