DHCP

  • DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Config Protocol.
  • Dynamically assigns IP addresses to devices using a domain network.
  • Automatically configures new hosts within a domain.
  • IP pool: Range of IPs available for assignment by the DHCP server.
  • Scope: Includes IP Pool, DHCP configs, etc.

How it Works

  • DHCP Release: DHCP Reassigns an IP
  • DHCP Discovery: New system in a domain asks the network for a IP address from the network.
  • DHCP Offer: The DHCP offers a IP address to the new system.
  • Request: The new system acknowledges that it wants the IP.
  • DHCP ACK: DHCP server assigns the IP to the new system.
