Interfacing with Confluent Enterprise(Kafka)

Often times, developers are overwhelmed by software distributions, and it takes lot of guessing and careful studying to understand what's all in a software distribution, the interdependencies, the default TCP ports, the directories that are created and used. One such complex distribution is Confluent Enterprise. There's usually a lot of guess work, reading, connecting the dots and solving puzzles, to put together a complete picture.
