Appearance

Clad as a woodsman or hunter, Sylvain does not stick much out with the grogs. He is quite handsome, with brown hair and a serious expression to his face. He is not unkind, but he rarely smiles.

Advancement Log

Backstory

Sylvain was born to a woodsman of small means, not very far from the covenant. Growing up in the woods, he was often left to his own devices, learning to find his own ways. Venturing deeper into the forest he encountered several sites of power, and the floral spirits took an interest in his Gift. His intuition of the forest grew, and he started on the path of Forest Lore even before he was found by Deidre.

Deidre is a mature maga two generations descended from a young Diedne survivor in the Schism. Raised in Merinita, she has tried to consolidate the heritage of Diedne with the Cult of Merinita. All the inner mysteries of Diedne were lost in the Schism, and Deidre and her parens have tried to discover new mysteries within the nature traditions of House Merinita. Faerie magic became but a cover, and their heart was always in the nature mysteries. When Agnes introduced the True Merinitæ in 1158, Deidre embraced her teaching and joined her line.

Deidre took Sylvain to the covenant to train him in her tradition. He embraced the teaching with great enthusiasm, as the mysteries seem to bring him closer to the forest which is his home. He is particularly curious about lost heritage of Diedne.
It may be a delusion, but he believes that his ancestors could do great things, when they lived in peace with the forest, before the encrouching of the dominion and the so-called civilisation of the Order. It would be great to recover these secrets.

At the moment he is drawn to adventure more than to politics, but he realises that much of the battle for the forest will be in debates at tribunal and negotiation with mundane powers. It is not where he want to be, but he might have to.

He is pagan, devout to the nature cult promoted by Deidre.
It may or may not be true to ancient traditions of the druids or of Diedne, but Sylvain like his mater is convinced. The Gift and other mystery powers are earned through the deep devotion to the forest and compassion for everything living.
