Introduction
The Eagle board is shipped with an Arrow-Blaster. It uses the same FTDI device as an Altera USB Blaster III. The Arrow Blaster can be reflashed to function as a USB Blaster III. There are a number of advantages when doing this upgrade.
- Driver support is included with the Quartus tool installation.
- Works flawlessly with Linux hosts.
- Continually updated and maintained with new Altera software updates.
Download and install FTProg
FTProg is a utility provided by FTDI that facilitates the reflashing of FTDI devices. Download the FTProg utility here. Note the Microsoft .NET requirements.
Download the template
Download the template here
The document text will be displayed in the browser. Right-click and Save as.
Reflash the FTDI device
Use a micro USB cable to connect the Arrow-Blaster to your PC.
Open FTProg
Scan for the FTDI device.
$ FILE --> Scan and Parse
Load the USB Blaster III template.
$ FILE --> Open Template
Select the device.
$ Right click Device:0
$ Apply Template --> Template: UB3_6022.xml
Program the device
$ DEVICES --> Program
Verify
Unplug the UB3 and plug it in again.
Open the Device manager
