Version 4.2 Overview

The modernization of the GPV user interface and the switch to the Leaftet map control are at the core of version 4.2. These changes enable the GPV to be both device independent and ready for future enhancements to consume tiled map services. The new UI is follows the Material Design principles, which provide an evolving framework for modern UI development.

The biggest difference to the users' experience is that, while almost all of the 4.1 features and functions and features have been retained, they have been moved to collapsible panels at the sides of the UI. An itemized change list and links to specific configuration changes can be found below.

Improvements / Features Added

  • Leaflet Map Controller - Open Source JavaScript library that is map tile ready
  • New User Interface - Features and Results delivered in expandable panels. Search, Selection, Legend, Location, and Markup are located in Left Panel. New Share panel
  • “Locate Me” Function - Uses GPS or IP address to recenter map. Available on all devices using crosshair icon on map panel

Features Removed

  • JQueryGeo
  • Mobile Viewer Link
  • Map Scale Input Field - Due to fixed zoom levels in Leaflet. Feature still available on the Share panel for printing.

  • Coordinate, Measure Line and Measure Area tools - Use equivalent markup tool

Features Improved / Revised

  • Header Slimmed - Hamburger icon collapses left panel, stop light icon opens/collapses details panel, question mark icon opens help documentation
  • Map Theme Dropdown - Moved tabs into single drop down list located on Map window
  • Map Tools - Located on the Map panel
  • Zoom slider - Replaced with Leaflet zoom buttons
  • Zoom to Selection Tool - Moved to Selection Panel
  • Marquee Zoom Tool - Replaced with map based Shift+Click/Drag functionality
  • Pan Tool - Default Map Tool, but still available in Map Tool drop down (turns off all other tools)
  • Print, Email, Export Map Extent, and Download Image functions - All have been moved to the Share Panel.
  • Loading Indicator - Animated clock replaced with progress bar across map screen.
  • Measurement Tools - Are enabled once a mark-up record is created.
  • Links to Google and Bing - Accessed using the Export Button in the Share Panel
  • Refresh Map Service - Moved to Legend Panel
  • Location Map - Expandable and located in bottom right corner of map window
