Section 15 ‐ Social Media & Public Relations - ApertureViewer/Aperture-Opertations-Manual GitHub Wiki

Aperture Viewer's presence on social media and its approach to public relations are vital for community building, sharing information, showcasing the viewer's capabilities, and managing the project's public image. All social media activities are guided by the project's Core Philosophy, Community Values, and the specific strategies outlined in the detailed Social Media Roadmap.

15.1 Social Media Roadmap & Platform Strategy (Summary)

The comprehensive strategy for Aperture Viewer's social media presence, including channel-specific plans, content types, goals, posting cadence, and role responsibilities (primarily managed by the Community & Social Media Manager, XXXXXX XXXXX, under the oversight of the Project Lead), is detailed in the Aperture Viewer Social Media Roadmap.

  • Full Document: Please refer to Appendix [H] for the complete Social Media Roadmap.
  • Key Principles Guiding Social Media Activity:
    • Community Hub (Discord): Discord serves as the primary real-time community hub for support, Q&A, user showcases, feedback, and direct developer interaction.
    • Educational & Promotional Hub (YouTube): YouTube is used for feature spotlights, release showcases, in-depth tutorials, and highlighting user-created content (with permission).
    • Development & Documentation Hub (GitHub): GitHub is the primary source for official release notes, the Wiki (core documentation), and technical discussions.
    • Targeted Outreach (Reddit, SL Forums): Strategic, helpful presence on relevant subreddits and official SL Forums for announcements and answering questions, avoiding aggressive self-promotion.
    • Visual Showcase (Flickr - if pursued): A highly curated space for showcasing stunning visuals made with Aperture Viewer, demonstrating its unique features.
    • Content Themes: All content aims to reflect "Nothing Is Not Possible," empower creators, showcase visual excellence, maintain transparency (within reason), and embody kindness and inclusivity.
    • Brand Voice: Communications are professional, friendly, helpful, and aligned with Aperture Viewer's ethos.

15.2 Management of Official Social Media Accounts

  • Ownership: All official Aperture Viewer social media accounts are the property of the Aperture Viewer project, under the ultimate control of the Project Lead (William Weaver).
  • Primary Management: Day-to-day management, posting, engagement, and moderation of designated social media platforms are the responsibility of the Community & Social Media Manager (XXXXX XXXXX), according to the approved Social Media Roadmap (Appendix [H]) and in consultation with the Project Lead.
  • Access Control:
    • The Project Lead will retain root/owner access to all primary official accounts.
    • The Community & Social Media Manager may be granted appropriate delegated access (e.g., Manager/Editor roles on YouTube Studio, Moderator/Admin on Discord) as needed to perform their duties, without requiring sharing of primary account credentials where platform tools permit such delegation.
    • For platforms where direct delegation is not feasible (e.g., Reddit, SL Forums), the Community & Social Media Manager will use their own established, reputable accounts, clearly identifying themselves as officially representing Aperture Viewer (e.g., with a flair or signature), with all posts being professional and aligned with Aperture's messaging.
  • Content Approval:
    • Major announcements (e.g., new releases, significant policy changes) will be drafted or approved by the Project Lead before dissemination by the Community & Social Media Manager.
    • Routine posts, engagement, and sharing of pre-approved content types (e.g., links to new tutorials created by the Project Lead, user showcases with permission) fall under the Community & Social Media Manager's purview, guided by the Social Media Roadmap.

15.3 Public Relations & Press Outreach Strategy

  • Target Audience: Outreach may be directed towards Second Life focused content creators (YouTubers, bloggers, photographers), virtual photography/machinima communities, and potentially (long-term aspiration) tech/gaming press outlets interested in unique indie/FOSS projects.
  • Press Kit: A digital "Influencer/Press Kit" will be maintained, containing:
    • Concise overview of Aperture Viewer (highlighting key exclusives).
    • Links to the main GitHub Repository, latest Release Notes, and Wiki.
    • Link to a primary YouTube overview video.
    • High-quality screenshots.
    • Official contact information ([email protected], Discord link).
  • Outreach Messaging: Messages will be personalized, polite, concise, highlighting benefits for the recipient's audience, and offering information/support.
  • Outreach Responsibility:
    • The Project Lead (William Weaver) will typically make initial contact with more prominent external press or highly respected community figures.
    • The Community & Social Media Manager (XXXXX XXXXXX) may handle outreach to a broader range of SL content creators and community figures, using agreed-upon materials and messaging, in coordination with the Project Lead.
  • Spokesperson: The Project Lead is the primary official spokesperson for press inquiries. The Community & Social Media Manager may handle initial routing of inquiries.
