New Interactions

Lifestyle adds a plethora of new interactions to the game with the goal of expanding on the simulation of life, creating new ways for players to interact with their characters, the environment and other players.

List of interactions

Meditation

Meditation is the practice of focused concentration, bringing yourself back to the moment over and over again. In-game it acts as a way to reduce a bit of stress and anxiety, but it's effects become wider and more impactful the more skilled the character is.

Playable Instruments

Lifestyle gives functionality to almost all vanilla musical instruments, with new animations, traits, skill and hundreds of songs characters can learn to play alone or form a band. Playing music helps reduce unhappiness and anxiety and in multiplayer it also helps raise the mood of other characters listening nearby.

Expressions and Voices

In order to give each character a bit more of personality some interactions have a chance to prompt automatic reactions from characters, such as cheering or booing a music performer. These reactions or expressions occur based on the character's combination of traits and mood, so for example a unhappy and stressed character is more likely to criticize a bad musical performance than a happy character is. As more personality traits are added each character's personality will become more unique and complex.

Voices were a mechanic first introduced in the Music update and are used in some of the new interactions and expressions. Each time a new character is created they are randomly assigned a different voice, so in a small group two characters are unlikely to sound the same.

DJing

Djing is the 3rd new activity introduced by Lifestyle: Hobbies. It requires the DJ Booth, which is a new functional multi-part tile introduced in the Disco Update. It can be used by any character to play electronic music, but having a high music skill allows the player to access a multitude of new mechanics, tools and more music. DJs can use the mixing table to add sounds, effects and loops to any music. They can change the music, the pace and even record their own loops live to better entertain their audience.

Disco Ball

Disco Balls were first introduced in the form of "Standing Disco Ball" in the Disco Update. It's main function is to be used as animated lights for parties or ambience decor. It has several different modes to choose from, ranging from regular "disco lights" to even mood-specific "romantic lights". Each mode provides different light animations, colors and arrangements and can even be played randomly.

Jukebox

The Disco Update brings new and interesting functionalities to the previously functionless vanilla Jukebox tiles. Now, as long as there is power, they can be turned on and used to play a varied selection of different musical genres. Instead of choosing a specific song, players select a genre and it will play indefinitely, automatically shuffling and randomly selecting a new song within the genre, with no further player input required. Hearing music can be used as a wag to help ease your character's anxiety and unhappiness to a degree. It will also slow the rate at which characters gain boredom while inside their bases.

Preferences and Tastes

First introduced in the Disco Update, preferences and tastes are part of a new mechanic developed with the goal of giving more personality to your digital avatar. Upon creation characters are randomly given likes and dislikes over certain topics which determine their behavior and enjoyment over related situations or activities. As of version 0.2.0 (Disco Update) the preferences and tastes mechanic is presented trough hidden traits and only covers the topic of music taste. The goal is to eventually change the presentation method, giving it it's own tab in the character info panel and increase the range of topics covered by the mechanic.

Dancing

The 4th new activity introduced by Lifestyle: Hobbies, dancing can be an effective way of letting your character decompress after a long day of surviving apocalypse. Trough leveling up the new dancing skill your character can learn new moves and make fewer mistakes. Dancing requires having a jukebox playing a song or having someone at the DJ Booth. The dance moves are chosen dynamically and change based on the genre of music playing.
