Meditation
Description
Meditation is the practice of focused concentration, bringing yourself back to the moment over and over again. In-game it acts as a way to reduce a bit of stress and anxiety, but it's effects become wider and more impactful the more skilled the character is.
Players can meditate with their characters by sitting on the floor and right clicking to bring the context menu. A new option will appear that allows them to meditate. Once meditation begins it can be disabled by any interactions such as moving or aiming, otherwise it will end automatically after a length of time determined by player skill level and traits. Meditation cannot start if the character is bored, showing the option in read letters instead and a message "Too bored to keep focus" will appear if the player hovers the cursor over the option.
In addition, upon reaching meditation level 3 characters are able to meditate while wearing bags.
A player selecting the option to meditate
A character unable to meditate due to boredom
Levitation
During meditation the character will perform one of several different meditation poses based on their skill. At a low skill level the character can fall asleep and generally keeps a bad posture during the activity, leading to neck pain. As the character increases their skill they start using better poses, leading to better results and less risk of neck pain. Upon reaching the higher levels of meditation the character receives a small chance of levitating their bodies. Levitation is initially hard, but can be mastered at the final skill level of meditation.

A low skill character sleeping

Level 6 character meditating with another pose
A character being unexpectedly lifted off the ground

| Mindfulness
Your mind is clear...
Beginning at level 3 meditation, characters are granted a Mindfulness moodle after a brief period of sustained meditation. During this state characters become less prone to panic and receive a small but continuous reduction to anxiety. At first this state takes only a few in-game minutes to wear off, but the duration increases with the character's meditation level. Disciplined characters take less time to get into the mindfulness state and it takes twice as long for the effects to wear off. The benefits from mindfulness begin as soon as the moodle appears while the duration timer only starts running after the player stops meditating. Repeating meditation won't extend or reset the duration of the moodle, but can lead to the next state if the character has enough skill. If Mindfulness is lost, it can be regained by practicing meditation again.
| Strong Mindfulness
Abandon pain and hunger...
At level 6 meditation the Strong Mindfulness moodle is unlocked. To reach this new state, the character has to first achieve the Mindfulness state and then keep meditating to achieve the new state. The easiest way to reach Strong Mindfulness is to do it in a single uninterrupted meditation session, as otherwise it might be difficult to reach it before the Mindfulness duration runs out. As a stronger version of the moodle, it grants all the benefits from Mindfulness plus new benefits like pain and hunger reduction. It's important to note that the moodle will not give your character weight, but will prevent them from suffering the negative effects of the hunger moodle. When the duration of the Strong Mindfulness moodle ends, it downgrades back to the previous stage.
The player can recover the strong mindfulness state by meditating before the mindfulness state ends, however this is not a guaranteed strategy, specially for lower level characters, as there may not be enough time to recover the strong mindfulness state before the mindfulness state ends, in this case regaining the mindfulness state will allow the character to get to the strong mindfulness state again without worrying about the duration time if they can do it in the same uninterrupted meditation session. Repeating meditation while already at the strong mindfulness state or it's previous stage will not extend or reset their duration.
| Perfect Mindfulness
Your eyes are truly open...
At level 10 meditation the player can reach the Perfect Mindfulness moodle which makes their characters impervious to panic, stress, helps heal wounds faster and can even get rid of the build-up stress from addictions. This state can only be reached once a day and after a long period of sustained meditation after reaching the strong mindfulness state. The healing factor helps with overall health, it speeds up the healing process and slow down the health loss, but won't make your character invincible nor will it treat wounds by itself, still requiring bandages and other medical equipment.
Duration of the Mindfulness state:
The time it takes for the mindfulness state to end after the player stops meditating.
Note: each stage doubles the total duration. For example, at level 6 with no traits (15 minutes in-game) the Strong Mindfulness moodle will last for 15 minutes after which it reverts back to Mindfulness moodle lasting 15 minutes.
Meditation Level | Duration (in-game minutes) | With Disciplined Trait |
---|---|---|
0 | X | X |
1 | X | X |
2 | X | X |
3 | 10m | 20m (Disciplined) |
4 | 14m | 28m (Disciplined) |
5 | 20m | 40m (Disciplined) |
6 | 30m | 60m (Disciplined) |
7 | 60m | 90m (Disciplined) |
8 | 90m | 120m (Disciplined) |
9 | 120m | 180m (Disciplined) |
10 | 180m | 260m (Disciplined) |
How long to reach each Mindfulness state and their effects:

---|---|---|---|
Mindfulness | 3 | Roughly Xs; Xs if disciplined | Stress Reduction; Panic Reduction |
Strong Mindfulness | 6 | Roughly Xs; Xs if disciplined | Stress Reduction; Panic Reduction; Pain Reduction; Hunger Reduction |
Perfect Mindfulness | 10 | Roughly Xs; Xs if disciplined | Stress Reduction; Panic Reduction; Pain Reduction; Hunger Reduction; Heal wounds faster; Reduce buildup stress from addictions |
Meditation gains and caps:
Mood gains:
Used wisely meditation can be a great source of stress relief, but overusing it can lead to the opposite effect. Repeating meditation throughout the day leads to diminishing gains and an ever increasing amount of boredom, unhappiness and, at lower levels, a small bit of pain. If you notice the bad effects worsening rapidly this is your character telling you he is done with meditation for the day.
Each new level of meditation makes the benefits stronger and stay effective for longer, while mitigating the bad effects and making them take longer to worsen.
XP gains:
XP is calculated in a very similar manner to mood gains as in overusing the activity or trying to grind for xp will lead to diminishing gains until your character is barely getting any xp. However you won't harvest the best xp gains if you only meditate a little throughout the day, this "hidden" mechanic gives players double the normal xp gain after meditating for a while, this can be noticed by looking for a "^XP+" appearing above your character instead of the usual "^XP" without the + sign. This only happens after some time has been spent meditating that day so beware as it can come with the drawback of worsening your character's overall mood if they're not very skilled.
