Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find the most asked questions we get about Lifestyle:

1 Q. Can it be added mid-game?

A: Yes, it can be safely added to existing saves. This is also true for servers

2 Q. Whenever I try an action I try like meditation or playing a song the character starts and ends it instantly, what is happening?

A: You're likely in debug or admin mode with instant/fast actions enabled. Some mods that accelerate actions are known to cause this as well. If neither is the case, please send a report to us with your logs.

3 Q. Why can't I hear anything when I try playing instruments or djing?

A: Sounds emitted by the player are muted when they enter invisible mode, make sure it's disabled (it auto-enables when you set your access level to admin)

4 Q. Why do I see other players holding their instruments in weird positions, but my character is fine?

A: The server is using a mod that interferes with vanilla item animations like fancy handwork. Unfortunately the only solution is to remove it

5 Q. I don't see errors but why can't I interact with anything from the new update in singleplayer or why am I getting duplicated lifestyle skills in servers or getting "file don't exist" messages?

A: It's caused by having a modpack or reuploaded version of lifestyle using the same mod ID. Make sure there were no reuploads or modpacks previously installed in your pc as that would interfere with the mod and cause all sorts of issues. It doesn't matter if the reupload/modpack is enabled or not (the game loads everything during boot), you have to clean your mods folder and unsubscribe from the reupload/modpack

6 Q. I got this error message "attempted index: MoodlePriority of non-table: null" and/or this error message "attempted index: Expression of non-table: null"

A: Same answer from the question above (Question 5)

7 Q. How can I add new songs?

A: Check out the collection in the steam workshop page, it has tutorials for instruments, jukebox and the dj booth

8 Q. Is every update a new mod?

A: No, every new update adds content to the original mod. Sometimes we also make smaller additions in the form of a new mod (like the playable harmonica), but major updates are always a part of the main mod.

9 Q. Do I need to hunt for vinyls to add to my jukebox?

A: Not at all, the jukebox comes with all the music already pre-installed and will automatically add any new music from addons you add to your game. You don't have to worry about having your loot tables bloated with the same repeated songs everywhere in your game.

10 Q. How to play instruments?

A: For playing instruments, you have 3 different ways: 1 - When in your inventory, right click and it will bring all the options to play; 2 - When the instrument is attached in your hotbar, you can right click directly on the icon in the hotbar; 3 - When equipped, right click anywhere on the ground (this 3rd alternative will only bring the option to play random as to not clutter the menu)

11 Q. What is the sound range of instruments?

A: All ranges are specified in the scripts folder, but almost all instruments go from 10 (area where you hear it at the normal volume) to 100 (where you can barely hear it), beyond this you won't hear instruments from other players. This range is only for players, zombie attraction range is much smaller - only 30 squares when outside and 10 squares if you're playing indoors

12 Q. How to start dancing? I don't see the option.

A: For dancing, a new option will show up when you right click on the ground whenever you're near an active jukebox or dj booth, make sure you're not holding any weapons.

13 Q. How to get the DJ Booth and Disco Ball?

A: Both can be found in the electrical category of the crafting window after learning the recipes from the magazine "HomeStyle: DISCO Special Edition"

14 Q. How to play in a band?

A: Every band member needs to have at least level 4 music to see the group perform option. Then select the song you want to play together. You don't need to select the song at the same time, you just have to be around each other. When everyone is ready, hold X and the performance will start

15 Q. What is the embarrassed moodle and how do I make it go away?

A: The embarrassed moodle represents your character feeling ashamed after failing a hobby. It serves an important role in combating grind and giving more life and flavor to a character's actions and reactions. To avoid failing level up your character past level 6 of the skill you're developing (you can still fail due to other circumstances, but not due to a lack of skill anymore). During normal gameplay the embarrassed moodle will go away on it's own given a few seconds or minutes depending on how much embarrassed you are.

16 Q. My character doesn't like a musical genre that I want to listen to, am I screwed?

A: Not at all, your character does enjoy listening to all genres, a preference only makes them enjoy a particular style more than the others, while a dislike only makes them enjoy a genre slightly less (not a negative impact). The bad music moodle will only affect your character negatively if they have the tone deaf trait, but you still get light red moodle even if you aren't tone deaf because they will enjoy a disliked genre way less than any other genre. However you shouldn't be worried to play it if you enjoy it, it won't harm your character. If you aren't getting red boredom/stress/unhappiness ^ warnings then your character is fine.

17 Q. Can I change my character's preferences?

A: Currently in update 0.2.0b (DISCO patch #2) preferences are always chosen automatically, but we plan to eventually add a way to customize your preferences in the character creation menu

18 Q. Are there any future plans?

A: Yes! We want to eventually expand the mod into several different types of hobbies. We also want to add more entries into the Lifestyle series, after hobbies is done.
